Hello Chaps&Chapesses

I've known of the old saying build websites for users, not search engines. To that end, and with space on a webpage a bit tight, when I want to draw the users focus instantly to the actual content (and an Ad) - especially in mobile or tablet mode.
So, are breadcrumbs & page titles important these days?

It's not important as title but breadcrumbs are still very helpful for users to find their way around a website.

Depends on the website.

For example if you use location breadcrumbs it may not show the path someone took to get to a page. But if you show path breadcrumbs they may not see the category.

If your internal navigation is good people will easily find their way around.

Yes, Breadcrumbs & Page Titles both are important for search engines as well as the user to better understand the webpage.

Breadcrumbs are basically the navigational components of your website and show exactly how have journeyed through the site. From the user perspective they are important as they not only tell you where you are, but where you have been previously as well.
Page Title is probably one of the most important factor for your search engine rankings and also it is the first thing a user sees in search results!

Only if you are using path breadcumbs. It won't do this if you are using location or attribute breadcrumbs.

Breadcrumbs are insanely important for user experience. People hate being lost – when in a new place, they look for familiar spots or landmarks. It's the same online. Breadcrumbs show the user a path around your website, from the page they're at through higher in rank pages, and to the homepage

Not always. Some people may want them but that doesn’t make them insanely important.

Breadcrumbs provide links back to each previous page the user navigated through to get to the current page or in hierarchical site structures the parent pages of the current one.
Title tags are displayed on search engine results pages (SERPs) as the clickable headline for a given result, and are important for usability, SEO, and social sharing. The title tag of a web page is meant to be an accurate and concise description of a page's content.

You are mixing two different things.

And there are three different types of breadcrumb navigation types. Which means you show path, position or attribute.

Breadcrumbs are an important part of almost every good website. These little navigational aids don’t just tell people where they are on your site, but they also help Google work out how your site is structured. Breadcrumb is a useful tool for both web designers and SEO experts. It helps Google bots to better understand the website hierarchy, and it helps users to comprehend their current position on the site. That’s why it makes a lot of sense to add these helpful little pointers to your website.

Regarding the importance of Title tags, Yes Title tags are still an important SEO factor. They are a key element of helping Google understand what your page is about, so it can serve your page to the right person. The weight and relevance of your content will work to build your page’s ranking. But having keyword targeted and well-optimized title tags will help push you to reach that top spot.

Page Title and breadcrumbs both are very important for Search engine optimization to find out the webpage easily.
You need to do some research before making such statements.

Ultimately only Google will know how important they are.

The best we can do is put ourselves in Google's position and try to rate these as a tool for ranking.

Personally I don't think breadcrumbs are something that Google needs in order to find the page structure of a site. Google will be able to find this just from the menu. So I don't think it holds much weight in terms of SEO but from a user perspective a breadcrumb can be useful if well implemented.

A page title will have some value towards SEO and we know this on the basis that Google will sometimes use the full page title within their listings. So a good page title will lead to a higher CTR on search. Google of course will generate their own page title in many cases and I expect this will increase overtime eventually making the page title have little relevance.

Titles are important because titles are are sygnals (what is this page about)

The importance of breadcrumbs depends on UI/UX of website and specific of website. That makes difficult to understand and evaluate importance. We use breadcrumbs on F5 Studio website because it make a sense, but not for all websites.

Only on parts of the site and even then they are incomplete. They are neither path, attribute or location. So how do they make sense?

I agree breadcrumbs can add value - but they need to be the right type and they need to be accurate.

:) Yes, it has a little sense for some visitors https://prnt.sc/rav01i
Hope I'll fix it on a new website.
Yes, but they are location breadcrumbs not path breadcrumbs which for a site like yours may be more useful. And on the blog attribute breadcrumbs might be better.

Breadcrumb trails have something to offer to both search engines and users. Search engines use them to get a better idea on how your website is structured and they help users navigate your website easier. Google has endorsed the use of breadcrumbs in several of their videos. They are a helpful device for websites with complex hierarchy such as eCommerce websites. They not only aid user navigation but also help search engines get a clearer picture of your website's structure. Therefore a website with complex structure should make use of breadcrumbs.

Regarding Title tags, Yes title tags are one of the important factors for SEO. Because the Title tags are a major factor in helping search engines understand what your page is about, and they are the first impression users have regarding your page. Title tags are used in three key places: (1) search engine results pages (SERPs), (2) web browsers, and (3) social networks. Therefore title tags are very important.

It's structured data Google is looking for, not breadcrumbs.

What you describe in your post are position breadcrumbs. Google wants attribute breadcrumbs. But if you want to help people navigate your site you may need to use path breadcrumbs.
