Hi everyone,
I've been brainstorming a software product idea for the past few weeks but haven't landed on something unique just yet. I thought it might be helpful to get some feedback from you all.

So, I have a simple question: What kind of challenges do you face when using software products in your businesses? How do you think these challenges could be addressed?

Or, if you have any software ideas that you'd like to see brought to life, let's discuss them. If it's a good fit, I’d be excited to develop it!

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
Cheers!

What I would like to do is pick the telephone up and talk to the person I wish to talk to.

I have had enough of this B/S My problem is not the fact there is software available but the fact that people are actually using it .

I honestly believe that the whole world will grind to a halt due to its dependency on technology

    Welcome to the family.

There are lots of opportunities to create software/platforms to meet needs and issues, however, not knowing what they are and asking for suggestions is not the right approach.

Unless you are being paid by someone with an issue who can give you a good brief and answer operating and process questions, you are creating something that will not meet the need. If I was to give you some suggestions, what would you do? Even with research, in almost all cases, without inside knowledge, you will not meet the need and probably create more issues.

If you are a developer, find clients to develop for. If you are in an industry, create something to benefit the industry. Don't recreate something that already exists unless you can do it better, cheaper or quicker.

If that is a simple question I would hate to be asked one that needed me to think about the answer.

Biggest issue is having to pay a subscription. Bring back the free CD on the front of computing magazines!

I have no problem with software, or it's adoption. Perhaps it would be better if different software providers collaborated better (some do).
For example, why does everyone in a meeting have to use Teams, or Zoom, or Google - why can't everyone use the software they want and they all talk to each other seamlessly.

It's been tried. Nobody wanted to give up their secrets so talks failed. And it's not just the three you mentioned, there are loads of peer to peer communication tools.

My problem with software and SAAS is the way it is sold.

3rd party affiliates or sales people exaggerating things

Not being able to trust things you are told and having to read contracts very carefully (especially when they contradict what the sales people tell you)

Recurring contracts which are hard to get out off

Really cheap for 1st year, but when dependent on it prices keep going up and up and up.

People selling software when you aren't sure if licence is correct

Software and tech is amazing. But just like Starwars, there's a dark side to it also. Nobody wants to be spending too much time of any software, so any lags or bugs within the software is frustrating, although it's not something I experience often. I'd say it comes down to the interface - a better interface that's easier to use is great for me but also great for my team of all levels. The less software I can use, the better, but it's not really a huge dealbreaker for me because it's something I used to. So for me, it's more of a case of those extra wait times, which isn't really what you were looking for, but hope it helps somehow!

But before picking an idea, you might want to narrow it down a bit.

What kind of businesses are you thinking about? Small startups, big companies, freelancers? And are you more interested in fixing workflow issues, automation, analytics, marketing, sales, or something else?

Once you have a clearer direction, it’ll be much easier to spot real problems worth solving.

    Good luck!

I am not sure the exactly nature of what you want to know.

Like most small businesses, we don't use that much software. Accounts, obviously, and the system is broadly fine.

We also build software. So I do kind of get what you want to know. The trick with new software, and upgrades, is to discuss the user experience with actual customers, and to do it early on before they get used to working around our eccentricities of design.

The only wisdom to be found on this thread is; don't ask vague nebulous questions if you want to get a sensible answer...
