Best place for free backlinks?

hi all, just wondering if anyone can recommend any good directorys to submit websites to.

DMOZ and Yahoo are the best directories and the only ones really worth mentioning.

DMOZ is free to list your site but can take months to see your site included.

Yahoo charges $299 per year to get your URL listed.

In terms of traffic,it really varies from business to business but they are good for link building/SEO

think i will give yahoo a miss then.... i have heard dmoz is THE place to be , but it tends to be very fussy about website coding. thats the general picture i have made of it anyway. thanks for your input anyway - much appreciated.

I know you are asking for free directories, but I would have to say the best place for free and easy back links would be social bookmarking. Create a lens at squidoo.com or simple blog at blogger.com link back to your site.

Another great source for non-directory backlinks is commenting on blogs, although most sites carry a no follow tag there are ways to search out only dofollow sites.

Also, spend some time with google and try to find some niche directories - any which are human friendly, and you feel would actually get used (there are a million which have just been thrown up from a script, out there).

Although the majority will carry relatively little weight in terms of "SEO", they might still bring you valuable traffic.

The easier a link is to obtain the lower the value of that link.

Free for all directories, blog commenting or even a self rpomoting blog are all pretty much a waste of time. Even DMOZ isn't worth the effort of submitting and waiting (as much as 2 years) for inclusion.

Be selective, do some research and look for directories in your niche. Use a search engine for your keywords and see which directories rank well. Try: directory+keyword or submission+keyword or URL+keyword. Treat link building link as a long term investment, one well placed inbound link on a respected site may well pay you back for years but 1000 low level links could well come back to haunt you.

for SEO purpose you need a lot of one way links and web directories is a great place to get links but it need time to fill out submit form for every directory So i think you need directory submitter to solve this issue like this one :
