I am just about fed up to the back teeth of direct marketing telephone calls.
Every day at least 5 or 6 and up to 15. Do I want to appear in this magazine. Would I like to be number one on Google. Where do I bank?. Who supplies our office stationary, Yell, scams, police gazettes, directories. The bloody list is endless.
I do not use this method to get customers and I appreciate it not taking up my time and my business line. How any of you that do this as a business can make it work now with this over used method is beyond me.
At first I used to be quite civil. Now, after hundreds of calls over 2 years I am just about fed up with it and yes I am TPS registered but does that stop the clowns, no!!!!!!.
There should be a law against it. A total ban and I dont care about you that make a living from it. Find a job that does not mean pestering people day and night over and over again.
OK I feel better now.

In a way I understand as they want to earn some money, but yes it is annoying. Just when you think it's an important phone call it's a cold caller or some automated voice - even worse! There should be a way of blocking those numbers.

I agree completely, these calls drive me mad, the recorded messages are the worst. I also hate it when people ring my mobile saying can you confirm your name, address, DOB for security before they even tell you who they are.
Sure I can........not!

I think the BBC's Watchdog did a programme on that last week Monday...Scammers targetting smartphones telling people 'the bank' or 'a person' withdrew hundred of pounds and that you should phone a certain number, giving your bank details to 'verify'

Sounds like HSBC, I get those from time to time. I usually respond by saying "I'll just take you through security" which produces a stalemate.

Just say no thanks and put the phone down, it's no hardship.

:)
Why should I have to keep saying no day after day after day.
I dont cold call people and I would imagine in your trade neither do you so why should we all have to put up with it every day.
When its just one maybe every so often then thats not so bad but up to 15 a day is just plain stupid. My wife is of sick at the moment and she is gob smacked at how often she has to break off from doing something just to answer yet another cold call.
Its all time spent wasted.

come on Keith, thats a little over simplyfying;) the guy puts up blinds, answering a call I'm assuming, means you have to put your tools down, well it does for me anyways. Mine have now all but stopped I'm assuming due to TPS so dont understand how come panda gets so many...

You could take that opportunity to advertise your business etc to the individual that's calling you - they may be interested.

Are you registered with the CTPS? Normal TPS won't work, even if your line is at home.

We registered with the CTPS a couple months ago and it really has worked. It takes a while for the list to kick in, and you do still get a few, but it really does help.

Mostly I do as Estwig says and just say no. What pees me off is those who don't take no for an answer. I don't like to hang up on people so wait for them to say "Ok, no problem, bye." I have been known to have strong words with those telesales people who insist on talking to me when they've been told I'd not interested a number of times. Unfortunately some of them need rudeness to get through but thankfully there aren't many of them.

I knew a solicitor once who would do that "Ah hello, Jones & Co. Would you like a will? Need legal advice? .... No, I'm not interested in your company, we sell legal services, how can I help you?"

3 letters, TPS. It really works, but takes about a month to kick in.

I'm with voipfone, when you get a marketing call ask them to hold and transfer them to extension 166.

Recorded message telling them that all agents are too busy dealing with other telemarketers, their call has been placed in a queue and is unlikely to be answered :D

I used to try and get cold callers interested in our product, you'd be amazed that it did actually result in business on a few occasions. Wasted opportunity if you don't try.

as mentioned already, register on the CTPS. we cold call for our business but are registered on this; bit ironic i know but at least we check our list against the register to make sure the ones we do call arent exempt from sales/ marketing calls.

Our home phone is TPS registered. Everyday we get 3 calls sying." This is a recorded message please do not hang up..." We hang up. We get around 7 calls from a dead line. We get around 3 from a company offering to consolidate our loans under a government scheme, turns out its a scam but they still call 3 or 4 times a day. All that on a tps registered phone and then there is the business phone, call after call. I have taken 4 myself this afternoon. My wife took around 3 this morning. It never ends. I wish I had as many actual customers as these calls, I would be quids in then.

It was the same with us. As I said before it stopped after about a month after registering with the TPS.
