Are you a Christian?

I watched the Australian comedian, Jim Jefferies, on TV last night. He did a routine about religion in which he asked why kangaroos weren't mentioned in the bible. There is no mention of dingos, koala bears, possums, bandicoots or wombats either. Makes you wonder what god had against the Aussies, eh?

Or, as JJ puts it, could it be that the guys who wrote the bible only mentioned things within five miles of where they were sitting?

:eek: Found it on Youtube. Don't watch if you are easily offended.:eek:

.

There are a lot of animals in existence that are not mentioned in the Bible. What has that got to do with anything?

The fact that everything that is mentioned happens to be in the Middle East.

There is nothing to prove those people knew anything more than what was available in their local area.

1) Relax and concentrate on the 4 small dots in the middle of the picture for about 30-40 seconds.
2) Then, take a look at a wall near you ( any smooth, single coloured surface)
3) You will see a circle of light developing.
4) Start blinking your eyes a couple of times and you will see a figure emerging...
5) What do you see? Who do you see?

Are you saying that you missed the point?

.

(Genesis 1:24, 25) 24*And God went on to say: “Let the earth put forth living souls according to their kinds, domestic animal and moving animal and wild beast of the earth according to its kind.” And it came to be so. 25*And God proceeded to make the wild beast of the earth according to its kind and the domestic animal according to its kind and every moving animal of the ground according to its kind. And God got to see that [it was] good.

I think this covers it in a nutshell, pretty conclusive, they all got a mention.

If people are gonna quote the Bible, I feel it's only fair I include this:

"Yet she increased her whorings, remembering the days of her youth, when she played the whore in the land of Egypt and lusted after her paramours there, whose members were like those of donkeys, and whose emission was like that of stallions."
-Ezekiel 23:19

It may not be in the 'bible' of the people you're speaking to - religions have a tendency to rewrite their bibles to suit their particular set of beliefs.

Of course, taking things from the Bible out of context is what Christians do! :p

The text you used was from the New Living Translation

Ezekiel 23:19-21

New Living Translation (NLT)

19 Yet she turned to even greater prostitution, remembering her youth when she was a prostitute in Egypt. 20 She lusted after lovers with genitals as large as a donkey's and emissions like those of a horse. 21 And so, Oholibah, you relived your former days as a young girl in Egypt, when you first allowed your breasts to be fondled.

Ezekiel 23:19-21

Good News Translation (GNT)

19 She became more of a prostitute than ever, acting the way she did as a young woman, when she was a prostitute in Egypt.20 She was filled with lust for oversexed men who had all the lustfulness of donkeys or stallions.
(21 Oholibah, you wanted to repeat the immorality you were guilty of as a young woman in Egypt, where men played with your breasts and you lost your virginity.)

So given the two translation the both are saying the same thing, are they not?

But the question is what did it all mean?

The name Oholibah was symbolic for the Southern Kingdom of Judah which had prostituted itself with the Assyrian's, which eventually brought destruction of her, by the Assyro-Babylonian world powers.

In other words, they as a nations of people, had lost God's favour, for their adulteress conduct, that they had carried out, with the Assyrian nation and Egypt before that.

Slight digression: Was the Bible the first written record of porn?
(Genuine question).

Definitely not, in the way you are thinking, is the answer to your question, it is a recorded account, which showed how God viewed immorality, and the action he took against it, for our benefit today.

The destruction of Sodom & Gomorrah gives us a clear picture of what God thought of immorality.

No he isn't wait and see.

Why the wait? It's been a good 2000 years since the big man put in any effort in project earth, bit lax if you ask me and certainly not very nurturing.

When do we get another round of miracles? Maybe jesus 2.0?

2000 years in God's eyes is only two days, that why not knowing the truth makes things difficult to put in perspective, I think you are about 2 minutes old in his eyes.

(2 Peter 3:8, 9) 8*However, let this one fact not be escaping YOUR notice, beloved ones, that one day is with Jehovah as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day. 9*Jehovah is not slow respecting his promise, as some people consider slowness, but he is patient with YOU because he does not desire any to be destroyed but desires all to attain to repentance.

Yeah, yeah, yeah - we all know that - but back in the good old days god and the squad were throwing down miracles here, smiting people there, dishing out visions like they were going out of fashion - you couldn't move for divine interference!

But then the carpenter becomes the carpented and it's all cold shoulder for the next 2000 years.

Even my missus doesn't brood for more than 2 days.

Prophesy being fulfilled, giving us time, to recognize, that man cannot rule himself.

(Jeremiah 10:23) 23*I well know, O Jehovah, that to earthling man his way does not belong. It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step.

Look at the mess we are in, but you cannot see that, you think everything is fine.

Yes?

I don't think everything is fine - but compare the life expectancy / healthcare / standard of living / welfare / education / crime rate etc, etc we are alot better off than we have ever been.

Face it - things are, and continue to be, getting better and better.
Your fear is manufactured.

Why not free yourself of the shackles of superstition and open your mind to the whole truth, the whole world, the whole universe - rather than your shaded, blinkererd, indoctrinated view? You are limiting your own existence just as a heroin addict limits theirs, why not take a leap of faith - that faith being in yourself rather than an emotional and psycological crutch of a religion?

Oh no, no, no - you can't get off that lightly.

Either your faith is robust enough to defend itself against any question, or it's not worthy of reverence.

Which is it to be?

I don't have to defend my faith against someone like your good self, who has your sort of attitude, we don't argue with people, especially on a public forum, as I have told you before.

But you have all the answers - you are one of the few chosen who god has seen as special and deserving of first class seats at the apocolypse.

I'm afraid you do have to defend yourself - if you are going to be active in putting forward your ideas and tell others that they have it all wrong then you must be prepared to defend them at every turn.

You can either defend your faith because it is true and the truth will always prevail - or you can duck, deflect, avoid and generally cower from the cold, hard light of the inquisitive mind.

Avoidance is not an option - unless you wish to admit you are not as sure of all of this as you claim.

Study the Bible my friend , you will get all the answers for yourself , no short cuts, its down to you.

(John 17:3) This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ.

Oh, come on - not that thread parachute again!

I've had many a good read of the bible - a few different versions of it actually, and my conclusions have always been the same.

Come along now, be a big boy and deal with it. Don't be scared, I don't bite - I just ask questions which should be very easy for anyone to answer if they have god on speed dial.

No need to hide.

What a load of waffle, just have a Bible study, and ask all the questions you want, in the privacy of your own home, and see if you come to the same conclusions.

I already know the truth, it's you, who has the problem, do something about it, before it is to late.

Yet again another monumental fail.

I really don't know why you bother with this foum - time and time again you have cowered from the cold hard light of truth, time and again you deflect, avoid, ignore and belittle anything that does not fit into your own interpretation of the world.

I have the highest respect for those who follow a particular faith - IF they have the fortitude to back it up when questioned.

Time and again you have failed to do this.

I only hope there are good peoplek around you to help you out with teh shock when reality comes crashing into your world.

Questioned by whom, that is the real question, is it not

No, not really.

A question is a question.

It's validity is not determined by the questioner, but by the content of the question.

Not in a Christians eyes my friend, it's when we are face to face, questions become and are important, not answering questions to someone on the net, that is a very dangerous my friend.

I'm sure you understand.

Yes?

If Bible study should be done in their own home, what on earth are you doing copying and pasting so much drivel on here.

What else are we meant to think but that you're a self-righteous hypocrite.

Yes?

So you can only ever really discuss things in a meaningful way when face to face?

well a) why then post so much online? and b) does that mean you talk face to face with god? I mean, actually face to face - as the 'I know he's here' thinking is less tangible than discussing online. Assuming an entity is there is not face to face.

When will you understand these silly diversion tactics don't work?

No reply - such a shame that those who claim to have all the answers and a special relationship with god always scuttle into the darkest corners and hide when faced with logic, questions and reason.

Such a shame. Such a weakness.

Such a shame. Such a weakness.

This is how a Christian views weaknesses.

2 Corinthians 12:10

Good News Translation (GNT)

10 I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and difficulties for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

A Question was asked of you, and you take it as an insult

You clearly have serious issues.

The motive behind his questioning is what is insulting, and using discernment which a spiritual man, uses all the time.

Beachcomber is a person that tries to be an intimater.

For instance he uses phrases like "Why not free yourself of the shackles of superstition and open your mind to the whole truth, the whole world, the whole universe - rather than your shaded, blinkererd, indoctrinated view? You are limiting your own existence just as a heroin addict limits theirs, why not take a leap of faith - that faith being in yourself rather than an emotional and psycological crutch of a religion?"

In other words he is a professional apostate a man to be watched very closely my friend.

He thinks that is his strength, but it's actually a huge weakness of his.

He has not got a clue, what the real truth is that is very apparent.
