Anyone using gumtree as a marketing tool?

In my experience, it is just one of thousands of sites that generate a small amount of traffic compared to other on-line areas.
What are you looking to advertise?

I sell garden products online.

I used to give private tuitions and I found gumtree good for local advertising. But I am not sure gumtree will be any good for what I do now. Anyway, I am not sure in what category it would fit in.

I've posted on gumtree loads, like many other dog walkers/pet sitters have. But I've never found a job from it (and its not cause my ads aren't good). I know some folk have gotten jobs but they are rare and far apart. I don't think for my category of work many people would choose gumtree to find a service that requires so much trust.

I find (and others do to) that in the pet sitter/dog walking category the most people that go into the category are other dog walkers/pet sitters checking out the competition.

That's my experience. Probably doesn't help anyone here at all.

I'd like to know how gumtree is regarding SEO. You can put backlinks on your ads. Worthwhile placing an ad just for that?

gumtree ads get well spidered by google so much so that its quite easy to get your ad titles turning up on page one google for local searches if you are clever with your keywords in the title - good to have a website also to take full advantage of this..

I used Gumtree and Vivastreet when I started before I had my website, and I did get some work through it. Another dog walker who was advertising on there gave up and because she'd seen me advertising told her clients where to look for me.

I still advertise on there, but more for puppy& dog training simply because so many dogs get advertised on there, and some of that work comes my way - although I more frequently get calls asking to buy a puppy from me, a service I don't offer!

I use Vivastreet more because I just have to hit one button to relist my ads, Gumtree I only do early in the mornings when I haven't anything else to do because I have to fill them in each time. Because they don't like links in the ads I can't see if I get much traffic, but I do get a few calls, and it's all exposure to get my name into the minds of people! I wouldn't rely on it as a marketting tool for my business really though.

I have a couple of ads running on Gumtree which produce a bit of work now and again. For a couple of free ads that took me 5 minutes to compose, any work out of them is a bonus. I have noticed a slight increase in enquiries recently and my conversion rate is pretty good. Sure beats the hell out of YP !

I wont recommend them. Had some worst experience with that.

Sorry but that's not a very constructive answer. Could you develop why it was such a bad experience.

For future posts, could people let me/us know the industry you are in, in which category did you post your ad (free or paid ad) and in which town did you post your ad.

I am sure those elements will help us to understand for who gumtree could be useful or not
