Amazon catalogue doing my head in

Which part(s) of the listing does amazon look at to try to see if the listing is linked to other listings.

I never seem to get a clean start and it is usually my own previous weaker listings that my new listings get stuck with.

So I get inferior pics or an old title or some crap I can't get rid of. And I gave up on amazon support. It's pathetic.

I am trying to be careful with the terms used. The one and only field that appeared to cause the link problem for me is what they title <manufacturers part number>. Gave up in the end on this one because while another supplier used the same code it linked. If you search for this code 130019BK on Amazon you will see I had to create another product to avoid the link. On the original product is a picture of black fabric. As soon as I reduce my selling price, the other supplier appears.

I would have thought it would be a bar code behind it, so I changed the bar code - which had no effect.

Sure...the scenario is varied, though. Here's a listing in which amazon has decided to put a question mark in the title, which we never put there. And the title does not actually come from a competitor listing. It is ours only. But it is impossible to remove it by reuploading the title. Amazon ignores my new title and keeps putting that one up online.

There are dozens like this, we use listing software. Why on earth can we not choose our own title with ease?

I'd start by asking how you created the listing. My guess would be you used the flat file upload method and Amazon France didn't recognise all the characters used (happens depending on how the file is created/saved - I had a very similar problem when I used OpenOffice to create my file) so inserted the '?' to replace the '-' I'm guessing should be there.

You should be able to create a case asking for the product title listing to be amended which usually takes a day or two.

If you created the listing from within server Seller Central then I'm at a bit of a loss!

Iain, there are so many and amazon messed me around so much, I'm looking for a solution that bypasses liaising with their cruddy support. One person asked me to do one thing, I did it, another person picked it up and said do this instead. It goes nowhere.

I would prefer to delete and relist with different data but want to understand how to avoid old listings.

If liaising with amazon every time I have a listing problem is the solution, I may wind the channel down. It only does a couple of grand a month, due to their fees being 7% higher than ebay in my category. Mainly it does well in decem

If you change the sku and mpn then there is nothing to stop you creating a new listing. It does sound as though it's got something to do with the listing software you are using - and I'd guess using the same software with no changes will result in the same error!

Try creating the listing with no dashes '-' in it and see what happens as you could add them in later if you wish.

Well I found the same listing on eBay and was able to see the EAN number you had used for it (and that the title has a dash in it!)

At the moment Amazon has created an ASIN for the product and that ASIN is connected to the EAN. Fairly sure if you create a new listing using the same EAN then Amazon will assume it's the same product (and possibly use the same title)

As you're brand registered on Amazon you don't need to supply an EAN (well you don't for the jewellery category but not sure about yours)

Might be something you've tried already but there is a link on the product detail page (when logged in) that allows you to report incorrect product information. The product title is part of this and it helps if you can add some evidence of what is wrong by linking to a manufacturer website or something showing the correct product title. You need to enter the correct title and save in the 'vital info' in your inventory before completing the form.

It's worth a try if you haven't attempted this method. I used it to change a number of product titles successfully.

You can do it for images too but I think it needs to be done as a separate request.
