hi there

i am seeking help with maekwting and advertising budgets and what you would expect as an adverage return on say £5000 a month or £10,000 a month budgets, i understand there are many variables but just wondering if there was a general rule of thumb ect. Also how does the budgets change when marketing a website and mobile apps on the different platforms.

any help/advice would be greatly appriciated

No, there isn't.

Without knowing the specifics of what your product/service is, who your target market is and what media you're thinking of using, I would say it's near-impossible to answer your question.

As others have said, you're asking the impossible. It all depends on what you're selling, your target market and whether you invest properly (in your marketing).

If you need any advice or support, let me know.

Regards

Mike

ethical PR - wot on earth does it have to do with you what i ask advice on or how many times i have asked for advice? its a disscussion forum where you discuss things, do i need to appologise to you for discussing things on a disscussion forum? is there a limit on how many times you can use the forum? i have started 6 threads in 5 months, you have got involved in 6 discussions in 1 day, feel free when i am clearly stating i am asking for advice not to respond unless you actually are offering advice, not an unreasonable request it is!!!

target market 18 - 35 year olds and it would be using online marketing, ppc, seo, social media, e-mail marketing ect and also a radio campain preferably sponsorship on a local radio station

cheers

Adam -The forum is here to provide advice and support for those who have a business and business starts ups - its a public forum which means members are able to comment as well as provide advice. As long as posters stay within the forum rules it's legitimate for myself and others to comment.

You will see from time to time that I and other (usually more established) members of the forum will question the legitimacy of some posters.

Busy business owners and those working in businesses, or who have experience of running a business who provide advice free of charge, can then decide whether they want to invest time and effort in responding.

And yes I have responded to quite a few posts today - I'm providing advice in response to questions.:)

A forum such as this is about giving back by responding as well as asking questions so do feel free to provide input where you feel you might have some expertise or knowledge to share.

Oh yes in answer to your question 'just wondering if there was a general rule of thumb when it comes to ROI on marketing spend' - no there isn't you would need to look at each communications channel and identify evaluation mechanisms.

1. no where does it state its only for business owners and start ups?
2. what constitutes a start up? an idea, a business plan? i have ideas so i constitute as a start up.
3. who are you to question me and why i may be needing advice?
4. what are your reasons for 'questioning' me? its not your job, you are not a moderator, i am not breaking any rules so why go out your way to do so?
5. what did you want to achive by questioning me and my posts? were you trying to humiliate me, put me down which i find beyond pathetic and is breaking a rule
6. what was the need to bring up how many times i have posted since april? is there a limit on posts? have a broke a rule?
7. What was the need to bring up subjects of previous posts? is it not a discussion forum? they are my posts and i am free to post about any subject i like and shouldnt have to justify how many times i post and the reasons behind my post to anyone on a general discussion forum and especially not to just another member?
8. should my personal post on a discussion forum be open to ridicule from other members? is that being polite which is a rule, as is ignoring the topic of discussion which you did and so is retriving old posts!
YOU BROKE 3 RULES THERE
9. i do not have to provide imput to others with my expertese to anyone if i dont wish to do so and shouldnt be made to feel although i should, and again its absalutly wrong of you to suggest i have to, that is your opinion on what this forum is about and it differs to mine but i dont imply you have to or shouldnt do things as if you did do something that was wrong and broke a rule a moderator would block it and may recive a warning, which didnt happen in any of my previous posts so you now belive you are above a moderator and can decide what is right and wrong and you now feel you above the creator/owner of the website and you now decide its functions, and what is expected.

I CAN NOT SAY THIS STRONGLY ENOUGH, AS MY MAM TOLD ME IF YOU HAVE NOTHING USEFULL OR HELPFULL TO SAY THEN FEEL FREE NOT TO SAY ANYTHING, NOT AN UNREASONABLE REQUEST

Adam...I think you are taking this far too personally.

Part and parcel of life on this forum is that people are allowed to comment as well as offering advice. If you look back on other threads you will see that others on this forum can be much more vociferous in terms of their comments and feedback then I am.

By the way I did not say you have to offer advice and support to others - I said 'do feel free to'.

Anyway probably best if we agree to disagree.

you are talking like child, others can be much more veciferous than i am- you have absalutely no right what so ever to be veciferous to anyone what so ever and just because other people are doesnt give you the right to

is that an excuse/ reason to try humilite someone? to think you are above a moderator? to think everyone should use the forum how you do?

and as for me taking it persoanlly you had no right what so ever to bring up previous posts, the amount of posts as a reason to put them down and prevent anyone else from helping them i cant say that strangly enough you had absalutely no right what so ever to do that!!!!!!!!!!

it was off topic, not wanted, not needed, pointless, could be seen as trying to humiliate someone for what reason?

again why did you do it and what was your intention and desired outcome for doing so,please answer that one question?

'prat' back to the old school ground name calling??? way to many people who just love to throw their 2pence in for no reason its pathetic

what did you achive there chris, do you now feel like a real man name calling via the internet? has it made your day and gave you a sence of achivment and you can now reward yourself with alphabet spaghetti (a fravourate for immature children who name call)

i feel like i am repeating myself or maybe you cant read or feel you above reading, gathering facts and make an educated decisions before you go childishly (i say that but its unfair on children the level of the sheer patheticness of calling someone a prat) call some one names?

as my mam said if you have nothing helpfull or usefull to say please feel free to say nothing at all, again not an unreasonable request

Could you be more specific? What is your business about and who are you trying to reach? Because otherwise we won't be able to give you an answer, marketing is a broad term.

All the best!

To the original poster. I suggest you invest your £10,000 per month marketing budget in one lump sum into the development of a time machine.

That way you can go back in time to when sites like Groupon had a degree of success.

JonathanSEO - i likened it to groupon as its main aim is to bring deals to the customer but its done in a completly different way.

are you really that stupid enough to imply groupon were sucessful but now are not sucessful??? wow wot a cliaim, you must be bill gates cliaming that a company worth 7 billion isnt sucessful.

It's all relative ...and they're not as successful as they once were. I think Jonathan was suggesting that, and basically that it's a tougher market that it once was.

As others have suggested here, though, you do seem to overreact a bit to others' opinions.
