Hi everyone I used to advertise In newspapers a lot 10 year ago and I’m thinking about having another go, does anyone use this medium with any degree of success I don’t want to ‘assume’ nobody reads them anymore as I know a few companies in different industries who say they do quite well.

I was thinking a boiler installation offer, we are happy to pay around £200 per CPA as they’re good profit which at £100 per advert, per paper, per week we’d only need one conversion per fortnight and each paper has a readership of around 60k although a good portion of that is social housing.

thanks everyone

Newspaper has finished in my area now, went weekly for a few years, then went bust. Must be something out there in my area, but I don’t know it off the top of my head.

I think you just have to try and see if it works for you.

We have one of those free weekly's that are full of ads that nobody admits to reading but some people do keep them for future reference because they want to deal with local businesses and the internet is not always a reliable way of finding such.

The area is fairly affluent with a large percentage of older folk and, obviously, this has a lot to do with it.

The monthly Local Advertiser we have delivered through the door would be one of the 1st places I looked in if I needed something (I say would be, that's if I hadn't thrown this months out when having a big clear up at the weekend :( )

There is a company who produce quite a few editions near us - Home - Post Advertiser (postaladvertisers.co.uk)

If you pay for an add to appear in the actual paper version do they replicate this on their online edition. We have not had free local papers for years and I cannot remember the last time I actually bought any newspaper ........ what about a local radio advert?

I’ve signed up for 3 months , it works out for £425 plus vat per month that’s for 2 papers with an1/4 page ad in both papers every week for 13 weeks plus an online ad which is guaranteed 35k impressions per month
For it to be worth it I would need 2 sales per month so I’ll report back after the 13 weeks with an update to hopefully help anyone else considering it

Post the advert on here if you want and I'll probably be able to tell you if it will work.

We cards through the door every few weeks listing local offers from various trades. We actually used one today and booked a carpet clean.

Can’t remember I last read a newspaper. Don’t even bother with the freesheets in the supermarket.

As always, the answer will depend in which newspaper (specific to your target audience), where you place the ad & what it says.

Where I live, there are no free newspapers & I'm not aware of any popular local rags.

Parish mags seem popular, then there are the glossy local magazines.

Ive just got prices for the local parish type mags and they’re very reasonable, so I’ll be giving them a shot once the ads are done I’ll post them on here along with the results in 13 weeks time. To be honest the papers is definitely a punt and could go either way but there’s only one way to find out. We need to advertise to expand so we’re going try everything. ‘Shit or bust’ as they say
