Accounting Programs With Different User Settings

I have a small business with 2 directors and 1 employee. We currently use Quickbooks Desktop, which works well as we can set different user access levels. i.e. the directors can see what money is in the accounts while the employee can still create works orders and use the customer database but doesn't have access to the financials. Are there any online accounting packages that work in a similar way?

On a similar note, all the cloud-based ones that I've looked at so far seem to log straight into a page with the account balances/overdues etc splashed all over the homepage, which isn't ideal if working in a public environment or bringing up works orders in front of clients. Quickbooks Desktop logs into a home screen with the ability to hide or show the account balances discretely in a sidebar. Do any cloud options have a similar ability to hide the financial balances until you need them?

What sort of business are you in/how much detail do you need for your accounts package?

Domestic repairs and a retail shop, so need the ability to create daily sales receipts for the retail side and create works orders for the client visits. Otherwise, just basic accounting, VAT and a customer database with contact details and previous jobs completed. We like the ability on QB Desktop to make an estimate inactive when we create an invoice from it, so that we can see which estimates are still active and might need attention/follow-up at the end of the month or quarter. We don't log stock levels or have a barcoded inventory system. Payroll would be a bonus but not essential as we currently run it through Moneysoft. We keep paper receipts and reconcile bank accounts manually, so not too fussed about uploading digital receipts. Bank account linking would be nice but again not essential.

Do you need EPOS tied in as well?

FreeAgent is online and has various user levels, have a read here

To answer the second part of your question when I log into FreeAgent all I see is an overview screen and you'd be hard pressed to get much information from that unless you were purposely sat looking at the screen. However as an accountant I do have an accountants log in from which I can access multiply clients so what I see may be different to a stand alone user. It's definitely worth asking FreeAgent support they are generally very good.

EPOS is not needed, all daily sales are inputted manually.

FreeAgent seems like it ticks many of the boxes. If I set a user at level 4 (invoices, estimates and files) it seems from the link above that they can't see bank purchases or transactions. Does that mean the bank account balances aren't visible as well?

I've not tried it myself but FreeAgent say level 4 users cant see purchases or bank transactions.
