Gone overdrawn with HSBC

I got a phone call today saying I went overdrawn today on my HSBC business account. So I have paid some money in this evening and the online system shows me in credit. However, since I have gone overdrawn are they going to charge me an extortionate fee? Can I reclaim if they do? I've only been overdrawn for a few hours!

Yes. It is your responsibility to ensure that you do not go overdrawn.

I also bank with HSBC and I think they charge £8 per day if you go overdrawn or £4 per day if you have an overdraft facility in place and you exceed that.

I'm not sure if you are not actually overdrawn at the end of the day whether you get a charge however the fact that they picked up the phone to you may incur a fee.

Also a small amount of interest may be charged but it is not likely to amount to anything to worry about.

Well realised that one took you over your overdraft and the other brought you back in. Did you call?

This evening you paid in? Was that after 3.30pm? Was it cash or cheque?

If the answer is after 3.30pm then it will be credited to your account the following working day, therefore you would be overdrawn, and also if they want to stick to the law of the land, cheques also have to clear, therefore you have not paid in cleared funds to cover the overdraft.

Be very careful in that what you see on a computer screen is showing you the balance of your account but its not cleared balance so you need to show account details to make sure the screen is telling you the correct tale.
