Would anyone be interested in coming along to a networking event in the Durham or Newcastle area if I arranged something?

I personally have experienced some very poor quality networking events and would like to set one up for a group of like minded people to sit around and have a coffee and a pleasant chat rather than a very direct approach.

If you would be interested please reply or pm me.

Thanks

Definately Interested. I'm starting a social business networking group in my local area as there's nothing informal/free for business owners in my area apart from the stuff old BNI type associations. I simply want to get business owners together to meet, swap ideas and explore opportunities together. I'm based in a place called Knaresborough near Harrogate but have clients all over from london to Billingham and lots in between. Where are you based?

Hi Jamie

I am based in Gateshead. Like you say, the BNI is so formal and you seem to spend more time generating leads than getting any of your work done! I was looking into having a more relaxed atmosphere over food or a drink or something. Not just based on generating business but also as a point to ask others for advice or help and basically to help each other through things.

Couldn't agree with you more. That's exactly the type of environment that I want to set up, no fees, no workload, just meeting say once or twice a month over a few drinks to chat, get advice, swap ideas, pass on leads etc etc etc I'll let you know how I get on. I would be interested in anything you manage to set up to, I have plans to increase my clients across the NE and have a couple already, Billingham, Stanley etc etc. Knaresborough is quite a trek from you but you would be welcome to attend one of our meets 'if' I can get it off the ground. Stay in touch and good luck.

Thats exactly what I am looking to do. I am in the process of setting one up in Gateshead, Newcastle and Derwentside, like you say it will naturally increase business etc but without being the driving force behind things.

I would love to come along when you get things set up and likewise, I will let you know when ours will be and you should come along. I have one or two clients down that neck of the woods but more Peterlee way, Let me know when you are up and running!

I would be most definatley interested too (Newcastle Area)

Ive been to a few bni meetings, too formal for me.

Networking is a fantastic idea and a great way to bounce business of each other and also make good friends.

Count me in when you get things going.

6pm no problem, i use to goto a chambers meeting at the lounge, dean street newcastle, very relaxed, informal atomosphere, maybe you could give them a try if you want it in newcastle.

It's a good idea - relaxed and informal would be the way I prefer things. Not tooo frequent, either! My suggestion would be Newcastle becuse it's easier to get to for the greatest number, if you see what I mean.

Lots of notice too! And I mean LOTS of notice! Think months, not weeks!

Count me in as another one who would be very interested in this sort of thing. I am a BNI member and absolutely love it (although I guess it differs from group to group) however do enjoy good old regular networking too, so would love to come along to something in Newcastle or Gateshead.

I would be interested in coming along - I am based near Scotch Corner but have clients all over the North East region, so would be happy to meet anywhere.

Durham seems to have a lack of networking or is that my misconception - have come across the Durham Business Club.

I would agree with one of the earlier postings that you need to give people good notice of the date and time, please let me know if you arrange one.

Hi

I never actually got round to setting anything up due to work commitments and lack of people really. If people are still interested then I will get something set up in principle that is handy for everyone.

How would Wednesday 10th November suit people? It seems most people are based in Newcastle so could meet at a location in the city centre or quayside?

How does that sound?

THanks

I think tabbie started out with good intentions but my experience with networking events is that a 6 monthly or yearly meet is no good to anybody. Networking has to be at regular intervals to benefit anybody.

We also have to appreciate that running a network session is very time consuming and just cant be left to one person to sought out, it has to be a joint effort between at least 2-3 people, this is why the BNI is successful because they have a chair person for the (Agenda), a treasury person (To take fees to pay for the venue) and a venue person (to sort it all out) it's not an easy task. IMO

I think an informal approach to networking is a greta idea. Not sure if this thread is still active but if you have a particular date and time in mind for the next one count me in

I think this has kind of died a death - although since this discussion started I have managed to start getting myself along to a greater variety of networking groups across the north east. If anyone wants an invite or info feel free to PM me

Yes great idea - we are looking at running networking events potentially too so would be good to combine them and get networking in North East.

Any location im sure will be fine.
