The mini-budget

How is it possible.
So many smart enterpreneurs in UK, somehow such a sl...m is elevated into power and they all take them serious, respect and follow the rules?

Hunt has just announced that virtually all the measures in the mini-budget will be reversed.

So, no cut in dividend tax. No changes to IR35. Energy support to end in April (and to be reviewed in April for futher support). No VAT-free scheme for non-UK shoppers. No cut to income tax. No cut to corporation tax.

But, NI increase to revert to pre-Johnson change levels and stamp duty reductions to continue. That last one is a bit daft - inflation is an issue, so continue to promote measures that inflate house prices.

All politicians are wedded to rising house prices. None of them, of any party, want to see house prices fall or stay level.

House prices don't feature in most inflation indices.

I do agree that as a nation we are getting into a proper mess with our obsession with house prices

So what now? All Mr Shapps/(C)hunt also gone?
Hunt has announced he won’t be running for leader and I would put money on whoever the next PM is to keep him as Chancellor. The only other person I’d say is guaranteed to keep their job is Ben Wallace as Defence Secretary.

How can they say 'next leader within a week' if it takes about month and a half for members of a party to choose from 2 candidates?

The PM said her successor will be elected in a Tory leadership contest, to be completed in the next week.

Does she completely lose the plot alomgside last brain cell?

It is being done just by the MPs, I understand.

All they need is for the runners & riders to agree that when it is down to 2 the one with less MP votes will stand aside.

That way they don't need to change their rules but the members don't get a say anyway
Agree. This is what I think will happen. Graham Brady has already come very close to saying as much.

As you will be aware, following the recent resignation of our Prime Minister, a leadership contest will be held to elect the next Leader of the Conservative Party.

Nominations to stand for election will close at 2pm on Monday 24th October. The Parliamentary Party will then vote to decide the final two candidates who will participate in the online member ballot.

As it stands, if you continue to remain a paying member of the Party, you will be entitled to vote in the contest.

The member ballot is due to open Tuesday 25th October and close Friday 28th October at 11am.

Due to the tight deadlines, this will be a fully online ballot - instructions detailing how to vote will be emailed to all members when the ballot opens.

More importantly how far has the pound got to sink over the next few days to trigger a no confidence vote and a general election most in the markets are saying only an election will help now.

Pound is not doing very well this morning, down yet again
