how are you managing ebays product identifiers?

Hi I am wondering how ebay sellers are managing the product identifiers.

I have received an email today to say that if i dont update the identifiers in 800 of my listings then they will not renew next month - as they are goods till cancelled -

Is there a quick and easy way to do this or would I need to manually do this for all 800 of my products.

my products fit into the home category sections and are branded goods.

I was planning maybe I will put them as "goods dont apply" - I can do this for the MPN

Also does the MPN and EAN both need to put into ?

Some help and advise would be appreciated.

We're struggling too, with limited staff it's a time consuming job but it's got to be done. I'm not sure if putting them as 'don't apply' will help; I'd suggest putting 30mins aside a day and get cracking with it..

Yes thats what I thought but my understanding is nonlistings will be renewed from now on post 29th feb

I have listings that end toda , tomorow whoch normallynwould be renewed as they goods till cancelledp

So thinkin of usin "dont apply" as temp measure

My staff sent ebay with a csv file with all as dont apply see how that works out

If your products are in a category that require product identifiers then the way I understand it, you will have to add them. Marking them as do not apply may work for a while, but you will have to add the identifiers at some stage soon. If your products are branded, then they will have product identifiers, so just take a bit of time and add them.

I am interested in how Ebay will validate this. Their validation of EAN numbers is woeful - a number of brands do not supply the data, for example.

I think Ebay are trying to punch above their weight.

Unfortunately they may be punching above their weight, but its their site and their rules, so we must all follow, regardless of how well it has been thought out. Personally I think they are trying to copy amazon, and failing. There are more serious faults with eBay that should have been corrected first.

Evening all and good to see Jon here from reco (James formally from ebeezy).

The way we have been handling these for clients is to use two tools, both of which come with their own set of problems but can be done swiftly and in bulk pending your knowledge and of course patience (if you carry a lot of variations)!

The tools in question are Turbolister (I know, very outdated) and File exchange. Both readily available as free downloads which tap into your active inventory.

The problem eBay now face it that it lags behind Amazon, hence why they are enforcing MPN and EANs/UPCs across the board. This has caught a lot of sellers out.

The reasoning behind the move is questionable as they move further away from their original USP.

Taking on Amazon is a big gamble, but the web would be a smaller shop window if eBay ceased to exist.

Do you mean why do Ebay want UPC's? It's so their customer base can compare apples with apples .....& (yet again) it then becomes a race to the bottom on price.

Give it a short while & I'm sure you'll have ebay changing their feedback system to have a product rating & seller rating (like Amazon)...this is badly needed, because frankly I don't want to take a bullet just because someone thought the product wasn't what they'd expected & my seller feedback gets hit.

I'm not going to bother, I hardly sell anything on ebay anymore since i stopped competing with everyone else on price. Some people (in my niche) must seriously be making £1-2 whilst ebay pockets £10.

All that matters is that it works for them and their business model

I was planning on downloading my full stock list which is about 700 products.

then to go through the warehouse and manually note down the codes.

and then upload via csv - which I hope I can.- can someone confirm I will be able to ????

ofcourse some codes i should be able to find online as i am in a very competitve game, but some of my products I will manually have to put them.

File exchange and/or Turbo lister (but both are very outdated now). You'll still have to map your product identifiers to child SKUs (product-labels). eBay still lags behind with this kind off stuff.
