Wedding Heaven

hello all,

i have recently set up a new website using Prestashop, and i really dont understand how to do the SEO for this, when i look on the product SEO i dont know what to put really? or if its the right place to put this.

Also i look under preferences then SEO and alot of things come up which i dont really understand for example list of things like... best sales, contact, 404.. what does all this mean?

people said the inbuilt SEO for this was quite simple, but right now im in such a mess and dont have a clue what to do about it?

can anybody help?

thanks

daniel

Hi Daniel.

Very briefly: For SEO the main things you need to worry about are:

For each page:

Write a page title for each product (upto 70 characters), make each title unique and descriptive. Include a relevant keyword if possible, but write the title mainly for the user.

Write a meta_description for each product (upto 155 characters), same again, unique, write for the user etc...

Write a unique description for each of your products, no generic product descriptions.

The most beneficial things you can do SEO wise for an ecommerce shop are things like making your site usable, think carefully about navigation and try to make every product easy to find.

Also consider experimenting with different layouts for your products, optimize for conversions. This will make your more sales, but additionally, having a better site will keep your users happy and indirectly help with SEO.

Oh, and start a blog, make it interesting and worthwhile. It's a good way to attract some links and give your readers something other than product descriptions to read.

Basically, stick to those few things for now, and try not to worry about the other stuff. If you start with the basics, you can work your way up to the more technical bits.

Hope that helps :)

I would incorporate a few slideshow images as a movie, free software via Windows Live Movie Maker has a direct YouTube facility, use your Google login to create a channel and upload a slideshow video and embed in your homepage.

I wrote a step-by-step guide here which you would find useful:

Any questions fire away, happy to help

Posts like this open a whole can of worms.

First thing I'd do is decide whether you're going to do your own SEO or if you have a budget, pay someone to do it for you who knows what they're doing.

I figure it's the former in this case. So you're going to have to read up. Maybe the best place to start will be something Presta Shop specific. I found this -

http://www.prestashop.com/en/white-paper-seo

Not sure whether it's tailored to their shopping cart or a general one though? They should make that clearer. But maybe give it a try and it should give you a handle on the basics.

The worst thing you can do is start reading random snippets of information as you'll just go off on a tangent and not get anywhere.

Good luck.

The ultimate purpose of seo is organic ranking for free organic visitor in search engine.
SEO activities start from web site design and development and end with top ranking in different major search engine.
SEO start with search engine friendly design and development ,content optimization, then link building.

Some good points raised, personally the issues you mention are both site and seo related a 404 page is simply a page which shows when a page on your site doesn't exist or can't be found.Ideally you want product placement here as well with a link to the product, that's part of marketing.

I'd hire someone to build your site and probably your seo,no offence but you're stumbling on basics and to rank nationally requiries skill. You can market your products by using wedding publications, wedding exhibitions and much more, google is but one form of marketing howver if you are setting up a website to sell the products hire a pro,the time you'll spend trying to get it right will,if you put a monetary value on it,cost more than hiring a pro web designer.

You have one major advantage (hopefully),you own the name,it scares me how many people fall for the cheap web site offers with the free domain, then realise it's not their domain and they are effectively tied in for the life of the domain.Cynical marketing at best I'd say.

I know redevo does web design and I know he is good,up to you but whoever you choose, choose someone and you'll be up and running alot faster.

They have an online seo guide which ,I assume, covers this

http://www.prestashop.com/en/white-paper-seo

they also have a forum with offers advice

http://www.prestashop.com/forums/forum/123-seo/

Join some car enthusiasts websites now, start making yourself know but do not add your link(even if allowed, usually 10-15 posts first) by the time your site is up and running you'll be less likely to get grief for dropping your link in your sig.I'd assume you're looking for car modders as a main market as well so join some of those forums as well, again tred lightly but these are places where it may even be worth seeing how much a banner ad will be.

Bad idea. The professional you employ will likely have to over write all the 'built in' SEO work you have done anyway. Especially because you're not well versed in it.

When a platform has built in SEO it just means that (or should mean) there are no inherent flaws in the way it performs and it's built with best SEO practices in mind.

You still have to implement various things yourself.

Oh right okay... Where's the best place to look for some one to do the seo then? And roughly how much could it cost?

Thanks for the help.

A timely post:

http://www.seomoz.org/ugc/selecting-an-seo-agency

Although you may be better off with a freelancer in this case as agencies usually require big budgets. So this maybe better -

http://www.seomoz.org/blog/how-do-i-find-a-good-seo

What industry are you? Something to do with selling car stereos? Quite competitive. Really depends what you need that determines the price.

Ok thanks, will check them out.

Well yeah selling and fitting car stereos, I know it's competitive but the supplier we buy from does good prices so we can sell at same or under competitors. Also offering trade and drop ship accounts
