Which is better iphone 3gs or iphone 4?

The Iphones are always the best all round phones money can buy, but because of the branding, design and the appeal that goes with all things Apple, they are going to be costly to run when compared to others. They do offer so much more though in terms of functionality. For me, (had a 3GS for 2 years), i really don't need or use that functionality. I think 95% of the iphone is wasted on me.
That said i was surprised to see the Iphone 4 is smaller then the 3GS as it looks much bigger from images.

Business - Blackberry's are still the best for e-mail.
I looked at an HTC recently and the size of things puts me off completely.

I had iphone 3gs before and i was impressed with the internet speed and function. It did used to freeze up a tad though.

I like the htc's the android is ok but i think iphone is slightly better.

Maybe i will go for a Nokia , too many to choose from :D

You sound like you wake up next to Steve Jobs every morning! I have a Galaxy S which is more than a match for the over rated locked in Iphone.

Really? How so? I think the Blackberry is better business phone and think the iphone is expensive and wasted on me so i'm going back to a Blackberry. I also don't like touch screen phones. Your analogy seems a little strange doesn't it. :|

There is no denying that the iphone is the best phone you can buy in terms of all round ability. The apps, itunes etc are all massive aspects of the iphones appeal and functionality and it can't be matched.

You sound like the sort of person who wants to act like he is more informed than anyone else and more astute with his Galaxy S, when the truth is somewhat different.

I'm sure Steve won't offering me a place in his bed based on my opinions and consumer tastes. :D

I don't know about this...

SD card support? No (You want more geebee's, buy a new phone! haha)
Bluetooth Songs? No
Choose a song as a ringtone? No (Unless you purchase a "ringtone" from iTunes)
Manage your music using iTunes? I'd rather carry round a set of drums with me than use iTunes - horrible thing...

Not only that, but your forced to use the iTunes store, or jailbreak . Then you have the connection issues on the latest model which make a case a must have. Every review you'll see will mention how thin it is - but its not so thin in a case, and much more ugly!

Sure the iPhone has appeal, but for the life of me I don't see why it has so much appeal when other phones offer a better user experience.

Oh yeah... My favourite phone is actually a Nokia 1661, which cost me £10. I done a bungee jump with this phone falling out of my pocket to the floor 20m below... When I got down I picked up the phone and it still worked just fine! lol :D

Try that with the new fancy smart phones lol...

take a close look at the new Windows Mobile 7 phones. even the 'lads mags' are saying that the iphone looks old in comparison.

mine is a HTC Trophy which is FREE on a £25 per month contract with vodafone.

it's fast, has a great and refreshing UI, allows you to create/edit word / excel / powerpoint / onenote docs. it's voice activated. the tiles show you how many emails/messages you've got without having to go into the actual app. 1000s of apps available already. great on-screen keyboard. mini-usb port.

xbox live games, maps, sharepoint integration. easiest email setup I've ever seen. I can't praise it enough.

I've also dropped it from quite a height (by accident) and it works fine.

drawbacks: you have to wait until January for the copy/paste functionality to be added as an automatic upgrade from Microsoft.

The hardware specs of the Galaxy S is actually slightly better than the Iphone 4 and the Galaxy is also Android based. Android is the fastest growing mobile operating system by far and has already more share of the market than IOS. That means a much wider choice of apps, oh and I can develop the apps myself too.

As for the Blackbery I don't think they have really caught up with the market.

The 4 is better. In every way. It's the next evolution of the product.

Unlike every other mobile phone manufacturer Apple don't offer alternative models. They make one phone and every year replace it with a better one.

The 3Gs is still on sale simply to milk the market. Not everyone can afford the 4, so drop the price on what stocks are left of the 3Gs and make as much money as you can until they are all gone or nobody cares anymore.

The general consensus is that with the exception of the broadly advertised coverage issues of the I-Phone 4 is the device is a improvement on the I-Phone 3GS but not on a massive scale.

The cost implication is something to take into account as well, as the 3GS is generally available on cheaper plans now. Which network are you with at the moment?

If you have a 3GS and bought a sim free iphone 4 from Apple, could you just put the sim from the 3GS into the new 4 and have it work perfectly?

More Than Luck

The iPhone 4 was the first bit of Apple kit that I have personally owned although I have supported some of their products before (e.g. ip3, the early powerbooks....what a pile of **** they were!).

I am blown away by the quantum leap that the ip4 is from previous phones I have used (mostly nokia).

Going back to the original question. It's much better than 3gs although I don't think it looks or feels as nice in the hand.

BUT.. it all depends on what you want todo. For instance the ip4 has a great camera that can also shoot HD video. But do you need it?

Important if you want to watch the cost as the ip4 is defiantly one of the most expensive phones/contracts on the market. If you are not worried about that then go for it.

p.s. One of the big things that I discovered about the iphone was the apps, I know that's a bit slow of me and I was aware that there were some good apps available, but, what I didn't realise is that alot of the apps are so much better than their website equivalent.

i.e. they are so much more focussed. You are not bombarded with irrelevant ads, material & you get want you want much faster.

No worries Massey, i'll have to earn my Christmas present money elsewhere then! ;-)

The reason I really asked was I can look into your account and see what sort of deal one of my colleagues on upgrades would be able to offer, so you get the best deal.
