Whats better? Financial Ombudsman or take it to court?

Suppose it really depends what the matter is. If you've got an issue with your bank that they've been unable to resolve, Ombudsman.

If you've got a neighbour constantly playing music until 4 in the morning, the Ombudsman's unlikely to give you much assistance.

Depends on the situation as you've not really given much information to go on but the Financial Ombudsman are a waste of time imo with my past experience.
If you want money back then courts is probably the best route to go down, FO just get involved and act as a mediator.

Agreed - it does depend on what the matter is but I've found the Ombudsman pretty useless to be honest.

Sorry was in a ruch, its a bank(HSBC) who has refused to compensate to the level required and have stopped replying to any means of communication.

I am not sure what the best way, I think maybe easier to take it straight to court.

If you're confident of the small claims process and you seek under £5k, this might be better. FOS is snowed under with these claiims, the banks are despicable in their "complaints" processes, just trying to be so rubbish that the person concerned gives up.

You still after your old bank charges :D

Yes, had to wait four weeks anyway and in this time they have accepted their guilt by giving compensation, however the amount is not even close to the level I was seeking. They have now stopped replying to any correspondence. Its about time.

If you go to Court and lose you can't then revert back to the FOS but if you go to the FOS and don't get the result you want you can then still take the case to Court
