Yes, It's another stereotypical idea thread...

Right,

Firstly, apology for the thread resurrection..

Secondly, I just thought I'd post a little update about this concept/idea. Today I attended the Pitch bootcamp in Manchester (check out http://www.thepitchuk.com/ for those who don't know what it is).

Hopefully all went well, I've absolutely no idea if I'll get through to the final 30 of 100 but after chatting with a few people it's certainly filled me with confidence that the concept has legs. I guess I'll have to wait and see but in the meantime, I just wanted to say think you to UKBF and it's members... it's an absolute goldmine of knowledge!

I hope you included Goat Simulator in your pitch ;-)

I included it so much, I'm not even sure if they knew my idea was Motorsport related ;)

Thanks for the (almost instant!) feedback guys. I've got some homework to complete and submit by monday for the second stage entry... but I'm told the video of todays pitch, as nerve racking as it was for me, will be online soon for you all to watch!

Just a random thought based on something I saw on YouTube the other day.

Have you heard of the "texting while driving" simulator?

It is an educational game to teach kids how distracted they get by texting and driving. They have to drive through ordinary traffic (in a simulator) while they respond to texts being sent to them on their phone. It seems to be enough to terrify most of the kids and hopefully it will save lives.

Educational days in schools might be another avenue to explore.

Just slightly OT I was reading about Formula E and how tweeting a particular driver gives their car a power boost while racing! Sounds pretty awesome and a great way to get the audience involved.

I've very mixed emotions about Formula E at the moment. The "fan boost" feature is also a bit unfair at the moment since a few well known Drivers are competing and will easily get the higher vote every time.

However it is a great idea, I'd love to see a fan controlled sprinkler system all around the track for random, instant rain. haha.

Cant say I'm a fan of an artificial boost in any motor sport, including the one they have in F1. Motorsport at that level is supposed to be about drivers skills and engineers pushing the boundaries of technology. Boosts just turn it in to a video game - using viewers votes turns it in to the X-Factor on wheels. Who ever came up with that text idea needs shooting - that is going to hold Formula-E back. I dont know many people who will take it seriously with that in place.

DazRave - It is something you will find more of on YouTube than Google.

Thread resuscitation time!

So, I made it through to thefinal 30 of the Pitch with this 'concept'.

Really shocked me... after completely ad-libbing my way through my 90 second pitch at the Manchester bootcamp, I've now got to get myself through a 3 minute pitch down in Bristol! Crazy times.

Thanks once again for everyone who's commented in this thread, great bunch of people with brilliant advice and a few laughs too.

    That's great news.

Most of the pitch contestants have jumped onto this forum as they thought they should, never to be seen again. It's great to have a regular keeping us updated.

    Why 32?

Thank you :) As a UKBF regular I intended to keep this thread alive, at least just a little bit! haha. If i ever make it big one day, with this idea, or another, it would be nice to reflect from time to time!

As for the 32... You're the first person to actually ask, yet I thought it would be something asked all the time! It's because I grew up in the postcode "M32". When kart racing as a team with my best friend (also originally from the same postcode), "Motorsport32" was always the team name we used. So when I started the project purely as a hobby, it was the first name I could think of. I never really intended it to grow into what it has become! :p

That's interesting. Obviously I would have preferred the answer that it was researched and planned because it has a meaning to your target market.;)

I saw your quick interview (the one where they cut you off in the middle), and must say it left me a little confused. I thought I knew exactly what it was you did, but it seemed in the interview that you offered some kind of software to help karting tracks etc run their business, like some kind of CRM software or something. If you do what I think you do, I think you need to work on your pitch.

You're right.. at the moment my actual pitch entry and the rest of this thread is split down the middle. The software/system i have built is exactly the same... it's just the implementation of the system that has changed now to better suit the pitch.

During the manchester bootcamp, i was able to get an hour talking with an accountant. My original idea was to buy a set of racing simulators, stick them in a mobile trailer/van of some sort and hire them out. The system i have personally built was the USP, as it was able to manage all the simulators and provide a very nice customer experience from start to finish. With that idea in mind, I also intended to licence out the software to karting venues as an extra revenue stream. The software is built in such a way that, so long as something is going around a circuit, it can be plugged into the software and tracked.

After talking to the accountant though, he made me realise I was doing things the wrong way around. Why look for investment and get in debt launching an unproven idea, when I can licence out the software first with almost zero overheads, get some income generated, then look to fund my virtual reality simulator hire idea.

The SLIGHT problem I have is that I can't change what i had submitted originally to the pitch as my entry... but i could change my actual 90 second pitch. So my 3 minute pitch down in bristol will probably have to address that issue!

One other thing I would say, having just watched the pitch that your signature links to, is watch how many times you say 'umm'. It gets to the point where you are even adding 'umm's to umm's'.

I found this online. If you listen around the BS, there may be something in there you find useful. :)

    haha! Yeap, total blag!

Way to scared to watch it back to be honest!! However, I will do as you say, thank you the feedback.

Unlike another person's thread on UKBF recently (something to do with a 'web' agency?) i take feedback well! ;)

I definitely think you could benefit from watching it. I think you come across well, just a few too many erm's and umm's. I don't think I could do any better.

I think the difference is, you know that i'm genuinely trying to help, rather than just having a pop at you. :)

I completely agree with you.. it's all to easy to "um and erm".. coupled with the fact I literally threw out my entire practiced pitch too!

I've just been sent the info for the final, i'm allowed to use slides and props this time to help aid my pitch, which also helps (i hope) aid my use if ERMs and Ums!

So, quick update, I didn't win.

Sock horror. totally thought I would!

Kidding, there were some really good pitches and very interesting businesses yesterday at the pitch 2014 in Bristol. A good 6 hour 380 mile round trip as well as pitching certainly took it out of me! Still tired.

My pitch on the other hand, went really well. The actual business concept has evolved a lot since my first post on here so the pitch was much easier to do, flowed well (i thought) and I was one of only 2 to be mentioned afterwards by the judges of being the most creative.

Highlight of my day was literally bumping into @MarkPearson of MyVoucherCodes and talking to him about his successful £55 million exit as well as asking him if he ever fancied doing something like Dragon's Den. Apparently he was asked not long ago, and Piers Linney got the job instead which he then commented "He's not even really a cloud computing expert and his profits are minuscule, but after watching the latest series the show is certainly just entertainment now."

I'd agree with the sentiment Carl but I think perhaps for the audience that Formula E is targeting it will work better. I think F1 has long lost the art of being about the driver. I remember the era of mansell vs senna it was so much more exciting then. Most races are just parade nowadays with pit strategy and reliability being key.

I can remember Mansell talking about how 40 laps before the end of an Indy race the track was bumpy and it had made him feel ill. Anyway he puked into his lid and still did the remaining 40 laps and won the race. *That* is championship driving.
