Hi everyone hope your all having a nice weekend.

Been a while since I have been on here but the wheels are still turning in my head about being self employed.

My latest idea is to do with wooden pallets I have noticed in my time as a yardsman there seems to be money in the buying and selling of wooden pallets.(lorry drivers often take them away to sell on the side) Does anyone know anything about this market If I was to take waste pallets from businesses sell the good ones and also take the broken ones and make into woodchips?

I have a few other ideas in the works If anyone has the time to messege me to debate business please get in contact.

Thanks

When we got rid of a few dozen pallets last year there were around a dozen companies who would have come and collected the pallets from us and paid for them. Within 10 miles of the address.
No idea what they did with them, didn't ask. But reasonable to assume that they sold some on at least.

Well I used to sell them but the local company I sell them too got too fussy about them .
The last load I ended paying to have them unloaded just to get my flat bed empty and was out of pocket on that afternoons exercise

At the end of building a house I had dozens of Euro pallets, some specialist steel ones and a load of other delivery pallets. called around the pallet dealers no one wanted them so big bonfire and off the scrappy with the metal ones.

I have some deliveries come on different sized pallets. I let a lady know and she comes to collect them. She makes bird boxes and tables out of them and sells then on. I have lots in the garden, and little bug houses to. Her latest thing is hedgehog houses.

We sell our excess ones on to a local company that collects and pays us about £1 each. They're only really interested when there's 100+ to make it worth their while. They then sell them onto other companies. Ironically the company across the road from us seems to buy from them so we may make an approach next time we need to shift some!

Pallets are good as a wee sideline which is what it would be to me when I get my warehouse business going. If your producing lots of waste pallets you can make a fair bit in the context of every little helps. The lorry that picks them up from my work takes them back down to england and sells them its a reasonable side income.
