Parcelhub

What brought you to this forum in the first place and do you see it as a useful fountain of knowledge for growing your business?

I find it great as not only do we get to add value to discussions but we also get plenty of referral traffic, and enquiries so definitely see the value.

I’m an accountant and am a member of another site dedicated to accountants. I came across this site and thought I could help small businesses, particularly in the accounts / finance section of the site. I’m not sure if I make a positive contribution, but I try (some of the time) ;-)

I am an employee rather than a business owner so don’t have anything to gain here. But I do like being apart of the community; there’s some great characters and professionals knocking about.

I'm an employee full-time and a sole-trader part-time. I find this forum great for discussing business subjects with like minded people, finding new ideas/services and helping others.

However one of the main things I love about this site is logging on in my coffee break and reading a long thread with people have a petty, heated  argument over nothing. I find those very entertaining and a welcome break from the day2day. I think others do too as the more heated the more views it seems to get! :p

I'm here to expand my knowledge outside my own sector, and ideally build some mutual trust so I may benefit from otehrs help or feedback in the future if I need it.

It's nice to see some business / traffic coming from here, but is not the goal for us at all.

Oh, ok. Mainly to learn stuff. Thanks to this place, we save money through Voipfone's call diversion, another member (John...) did our Sage forms which means we do all our invoicing and statements electronically now, which saves us on postage and paper. The legal threads are often interesting. Karl's posts on employment law are an eye opener.

I like reading the passive aggressive discussions (usually on the SEO threads) and the pointless arguments on lots of other threads that go round and round because approximately 75% of the people taking part in it are idiots and don't actually have a clue what they are talking about.

I like joining in those pointless arguments. Gives me something to do in the afternoons...

I use it to get out of doing the dinner!

When it comes round to 6.30 in the evening I tell my wife I am working on my online profile!

On a serious note I can actually book the time reading threads & postings as part of my CPD (continual professional development) time that I have to do to maintain a Practicing Certificate.

I stumbled across this place looking for info about setting up an online business.
I joined up because, I know no one who runs an online business. The people I know who do run businesses are as busy as I am, and I rarely get to talk to them. Anyway, more than half are staring down the barrel of bankruptcy , already bankrupt, or fresh out of the mental home.
The ones doing well, started before decimalisation......
The rest the people I know are Farmers, or retired, and some of those still turn the lights off with a stick, in case they get an electric shock from the switch, and think the interweb thingy lets the Devil in the house.

I can't remember how I found this site, or what I was actually looking for at the time, but I am pleased I found it.

There is certainly a wealth of information in the various forums covering a variety of subjects - there can't be many subjects that haven't been covered. It's a good place to ask questions and ask for help - even if at times that does then create an argument!

I come here to learn and gain information about different subjects, ask the odd question and to help where ever I can.

I'm here simply because I like to see Muppets with worse business ideas than mine, bit like Dragons Den and The Apprentice but I get a say in the matter.

Then there are the wannabe wallies who talk the talk but forget what they previously posted, they are fun to expose (you know who I'm talking about!!).

And also, where a genuine question is asked and a real business is discussed I like to help where my expierence allows.

Basically, this forum is, generally, a bit of inconsequential fun.

I'm here to read, learn from other people's success and also from their mistakes, and to try and provide positive advice and direction based on my relatively limited experience

I can't remember how I found this forum, probably googling a business related question and a thread on this site coming up

I pretty much read every thread in my thirst for knowledge!

So are you in the 75% or the 25%.?

I forget why I originally registered but I enjoy the banter, love a rant, and I have picked up some really useful info and tips from here

I am here so that those starting out do not make the same mistakes that I made when starting out.

It is also a useful research tool into the motivations, positions and problems that SMEs and one-man-bands face day-to-day.

To learn from others and hopefully to give advice from stuff I have learnt the hard way.

Its like UK wide networking rather than a local breakfast meeting. I have never actively solicited for work on here but have picked up some over the years.

Found this forum long time ago through Google. Good place to talk about just anything, not only connected with business:) Also nice SEO thread :D

I came here as the result of google searching a question, I'm sure, but I stay for a myriad of reasons...

- I have on more than one occasion seen a great idea offered to someone, and thought 'hey, I could do that too!' Somewhere on here someone was asking about marketing and a helpful poster suggested contacting papers with copy they might print. As a direct result I am appearing in the Dorset Echo and Western Gazzette to tell the story of my business growth in the coming days. Great free publicity! I also, of course, thanked the poster with a thumbs up.

- I believe the best way to truly understand something, is to teach it, so by answering questions I more fully understand many facets of what I already know. Once upon a time I played allot of poker, and advised someone of the best way to play QQ pre-flop on a forum. 2 great players I respected both disagreed with me, but then the magic happened, they disagreed about why they disagreed with me. The result, everybody learned, by teaching.

- I believe I have something to offer to several topics, like marketing and startups (not internet based stuff though) and enjoy spreading ideas. I'd like to think I give some value to the forum in these areas.

- There's never a point where we know everything. I believe that a more rounded knowledge of aspects of my business I currently delegate, like accounting, can only help me make better decisions. I am a firm believer in decisions made with all information being the gold standard. As a result I read the accounting, legal, and insolvency forums daily. Forewarned is forearmed.

- Networking. Dan from Hi-hosting is currently hosting one of my websites and setting up another. Old Welsh guy is working on my Seo. I received a quote for lease vehicles yesterday from a forum member. I feel that a recommendation here can go a long way, depending on who it comes from. My business isn't likely to gain work from this site, but it can contract some for sure.

theres a ton of other, smaller reasons, but those are the main ones.

I find the forum very informative and have learnt quite a bit from here over the years. I post only occasionally - at first I was quite nervous about posting questions, however having seem some of the other posts over the years I don't think I needed to worry! I visit a couple of times every week.

The site doesn't seem as busy as it used to be but is still really interesting.
