Hi Everyone, long time no business idea!

Can anybody tell me roughly how much books are bought at wholesale?

For example, Dan Browns book, Inferno is selling on Amazon for £9 and Kindle for £7.20.

Does anybody know how much this book would cost wholesale?
Do you think the wholesale price would be cheaper than the Kindle retail price?

Cheers.

I always thought that too. I suppose it depends on what type of business you are and the quantity you are wanting. Might be difficult to get them to sell to you at all unless you are an established retailer.

Wholesale prices are about quantity ... How many copies would you be willing to buy in one go?

I have a friend who was in book business. He did fail but that does not prove that the business is bad... it only says about him as a businessman. However I know that he did have a great start simply because he found his buyers before he even got the books. Look around, don't be afraid to share you ideas... no one will steal it, It takes much more to succeed in life.

Unless your name is Amazon or Tesco you won't be making any money on new release and blockbuster titles. The reality is that they can retail them at break even or small profit cheaper than you can buy wholesale or direct, same goes for CDs, DVDs, Games, etc. The profit is in the back-catalogue, rare, used market. However, you need to be very knowledgeable in your area to make it work. When I sold music CDs some time back I often used Amazon as a source of supply on many titles, they were cheaper than buying direct. Glad i'm long out of the market.

Take a trip around a few charity shops, I have seen Dan Brown, Lee Child, etc. at £1 each, build up relationships with shop managers and you can buy in bulk for 20p each (if you know your market).

Many of the larger charity shops sell their surplus books for 2p each, but you don't get to choose which titles you want.
