Which URL is better?

In terms of search engine results, which of these urls would be optimal for the search term 'Ford Focus':

site dot com/ford/focus.html

site dot com/ford/ford-focus.html

Does the page url need ford in it or will it be picked up just as readily from the folder name?

Assuming you are going to use the same words in the page titles, headers and content and source page anchor text, the URL is going to make no difference to your ranking. Use whichever one is best for your visitors.

Yes, the titles, headers and content would all have the same text.

In that case I guess the shorter option looks best.

As a user, it would be better if you used mod_rewrite to make the url /ford/focus/. That is if your web host supports it.

You could put both pages on the site or similarly to Sanjiv's suggestion create your directory structure as he says with a /ford/focus/ directory, a /ford/escort/ directory etc. that would then let you develop a single index.html page for each directory.

Just a thought :)
