Hi everyone,

Just looking for some advice on the best platforms/websites for find good web developers/designers to outsource our work to?

We are a UK based online marketing company, and looking to outsource our work to anywhere in the world (UK included).

We have tried freelancer and odesk (odesk being the better) - Also any experience with these would be a great help.

Thanks in advance.

To be honest, you can continue to go down the route you've gone...adding People Per Hour to that list, but I would look on Linkedin or maybe just do a Google search based on the specific skill sets you require.

There are loads of independents, one man bands etc looking for reliable work. It all depends on what you need doing and if you're willing to accommodate their rates of pay.

Thats the main difference between what you have been trying so far and talking direct, you might get a non uk designer for £8per hour on PPH or Elance, but a UK one will want at least twice that, sgnificantly more if you want something truly bespoke.

This is definitely a case of caveat emptor, and unfortunately unless you know what you're doing, the wool can be pulled right down over your eyes. Our first developer hid links for his site at almost every turn in our code, the most recent developer produced extremely shoddy work that took us ages to unravel - we're now working with an agency with a solid reputation and testimonials and whose work we've admired for a while.

You'll get bombarded with private messages on here from people offering you a site for peanuts, be warned. Check out previous work, follow up their testimonials, and don't pay for everything up front, a sure fire way of getting a site that's never completed...

Hi Rob,
try Elance also. Its all in the way you create your Job description, interviewing potential workers and then building up a relationship of both local and further afield subcontractors. Ive been quite successful but its all in how ive refined my requirements of workers.

Hi Rob, we tried Odesk and Elance too but we've got better workers from Staff.com. They have a pool of full-time talented developers who are skilled in designing/programming websites . You can also hire them for a 10-hour trial if you want to test out their skills, i've tried hiring developers from them and so far I'm happy with their service.

What makes you say that - how many of them have you used?
You're promoting a website that does exactly the same thing as elance and odesk.
Some of the people on there are on elance - so your recommendation is flawed.

No, don't go to Elance or Odesk. I would say play it safe and local and go to PPH. After i started using Peopleperhour.com it's hard for me to recommend any other freelance marketplace. The designers are amazing there!!
