(4) The heading of your e-mailing should test short

Passing off is something you need to consider.

It's pointless because the day of the directory has passed. There are a few successful sites but most have fallen by the wayside. People search using a search engine. Which means your site is only going to succeed if it ranks above everyone else for those local searches. But if I were a plumber, I'd want my site to be #1 in the serps not a freead listing. And it's not about the number of links, google tells you this in their documentation.

But if you think your site is the way forwards then I wish you well. Maybe you will make it work unlike the thousands of others who couldn't.

We are not passing off, our sites have their own, very clear identity. The sites are getting hundreds of free listings a day and both advertisers and business is doing great thanks. To say the directory is out of date and passed though is ridiculous. I do agree many small businesses need direct marketing and SEO support and take point re rankings but traffic to directories often provides leads for advertisers that convert to sales from many sources including existing advertisers using the site, e-shots, social & paid search.

There are two reasons to sign up for free directory listings;

  • SEO gain - If the directory is of good quality then whether or not they are do follow or no follow they can provide some SEO gain
  • Leads - Coming from a franchising background I know lots of MLM and franchising companies that have really done well converting leads from free listings so in my mind it proves these work
At the end of the day if you have time ( and that is your cost ) posting quality listings and articles on good quality directories and sites that are RELEVANT to your business will always give you some gain whether for SEO or just to get your company/services in front of more potential customers.

If the directory is of good quality...
...posting quality listings and articles on good quality directories...
You can count the number of good directories on one hand. They are as rare as hen's teeth.
99.9% of directories are ignored by Google. One way to check is to see if the directory name (not the URL) appears in the serps.

SEO is often about opinion but if you Google about the value of links from directories the majority of experts say that they benefit SEO and all business savvy people will agree that free exposure for your business is worth the 2 minutes it takes to ad a listing, especially if you are a small, new start up business

If you operate from a physical address Google My Business formerly known as Google Places would be your best bet for free traffic. Engage with customers when they write reviews and you will see your listing climb to the very top of the local search listing.
If you need advice on this PM me

I would say that word of mouth is the best free advertising you could ever get. If your product/service has uniqueness, creativity, good quality, and originality, you will succeed for sure. We started our business without spending any cent on any advertising, without even a website, just with a Facebook page, and after 2 weeks we had a constant flow of clients that doesn't stop for half a year of our existing business. Even though I graduated from an advertising school, I believe in the product/service. Better to spend free money you have on improving quality than advertising.

I've had some great results from forum posts on targetted sites. It does take time - anyone simply making one post about their business is soon spotted and discredited - but if you're an active forum member and are genuinely answering someone's query then you can get some really strong leads.

Silky

second that - and email marketing

I am hoping somone does. I hate writing the damn things!! LOL

So are there any great article writers out there if I gave you the keywords to include?

FIVERR!!!

Maybe you have, but the quality of the content you get from fiverr isn't very good. It might be grammatically correct but it tends not to be engaging, interesting or directed.

As an aside, I tried to use your site and gave up. The tiny light grey font is almost impossible to read

For my business word of mouth has proved to be the best form of free advertising. I run a digital lead generation services working form mostly SME's but most of my new customers are recruited through existing clients. Shows the power of doing a good job i hope!

I started reading this thread, thought the advice sounded outdated, then read the posting dates.

Article marketing is dead, IMHO. You just get a lot of links on duplicate content from cr*ppy sites. Fiverr is great for things that can be churned out quickly using templates, like logos and videos. You won't get quality unique content on there.

No, don't use ffiver for that sort of thing. Unless you are quite happy to use the junk they give you.
