Bet you remember when AA patrolmen would stand by the side of the road and salute any cars with AA badges.

Back on topic, if we can count University vacation jobs, one of my first was working for a central London house cleaning agency. Among my clients that summer was Lord Lucan, shortly before he disappeared.

And no, it wasn't me!

Loads of student jobs but by far the favourite was doing removals with Pickfords

I still often volunteer to help with friends' removals

Woolworths on the checkout, best days of my life. Stress free, easy going, friendly customers, and getting iminmate with the Saturday girl in the stock room who's now my wife.

Right with you owas!

One of my first jobs was working in Boots one xmas, from September to Xmas Eve. I absolutely *loved* it. Same reasons as you, stress free, soon as you were done for the day that was it, forget work, no 'carry-over' of $hit/hassle from one day to the next.

I got moved around alot, in those 4 months I worked in Home & garden, Stationary, Photography, Records and ended up in Computer Department. Did have the odd rude customer that would upset your day but plenty of nice ones.

Really happy days, mind you that was 27 years ago!

Sadly well paid jobs=hassle
Poorly paid jobs=no hassle

My first job was a general dogsbody working in a care home for alzheimers patients. I was a KP, a carer and a cleaner whenever the need arised.

They all had locked wards to stop them from wandering outside and getting lost and the wards all had passcodes to get in and out of and I remember this old guy used to follow me everywhere and try and look at the code I was typing in so he could escape. The sly old bugger haha. I also remember he actually managed to trick a new nurse at the home into letting him out because he said he was a relative of his self (if that makes sense haha). He only got as far as the main entrance though thank god. :D

Selling shoes in Bond Street was my very first job. My strangest one was working in a wetsuit factory as it involved not only heatsealing the pieces together and finishing but also trying them on for fit!

Apprentice mechanic at Peugeot Talbot.
Stuck it out for 2 years then went to Uni and studied engineering and eventually got into CNC programming that led onto my interest in all things www

First job was going in with my Dad as Saturday boy, started going in when I was 12! in a Parts Department.

Having lost my father this year, I'd do anything to go back and do that with him all over again!

I've done all sorts, Parts Assistant, Cleaning Caravans, Overnight Nightshift Shelf Stacking, Citroen Sales Executive....got to do anything to earn the moolah.

Luckily I don't have to do any of that any more :)

Paper round before school back in 1972. Got promoted and was allowed to put the papers in the bags - and extra 2/6 per week!

School holiday job filing for the Potato Marketing Board. Watching the full-timers queuing up at twenty to five with their clock cards in their hands determined me to never work for the government.

My 1st job after school was in the darkroom of the photo department of Morris Motors car factory at just over £3 per week. I can still remember printing the pictures of the Mini mockup which Alec Issigonis used to draw on.

Working in a department store over Christmas, which mostly involved lugging boxes from one store room to another and listening to 'store radio' (a 30 minute loop) over and over and over... :(

bakers dogs body, before should I would be moving all the baked items in the morning down 3 flights of very narrow stairs to the shop downstairs.

After school I would go back and clean up the bakery, wash the pans etc ready for the baker to come in that evening.

1971 Timothy Whites, before they merged with Boots. Saturday job to pay for my school trip to Germany.

I remember telling an older person that the dishcloth she was buying was sixpence. She gave me a tanner and it took forever to explain that I meant 6 New pence, ie 1/2d and a bit.
