We're number 1!

Hi everyone, I just wanted to let you all know that we went from page 7 in the organics (yesterday) on google to number 1 today!

I think its just on local searches though, my dad checked and we're still pretty low (he lives an hour away)

I just wanted to see if it's normal to be higher on local searches? We implemented a lot of offsite SEO techniques at the start of the week, I didn't expect to see such a vast improvement so quickly (couldn't believe my eyes this morning!)

Thanks!
Jen

Bottom of page 8 for me.

Are you sure it's not personalised search up to it's old tricks?

The term 'web design wrexham' has quite a few competing sites and without having the term 'web design' in your title I doubt your site would rank that high against the competition.

Keep up your hopes, I'm not an SEO guru by any means. I only bought my current domain a few months back after renaming the company and its a very long road. I'm literally none-existant for my current search terms.

Have you tried answering questions on a blog or using ezine-articles. I wrote an article last year 'Increasing sales with e-commerce' and it flew through google I got around 2k visitors over 3weeks just for that search term (I didn't think it would be that popular)

A few minor edits to your homepage should boost you to at least page 2 if that is the page you want ranked for, alt. your /webcreation page.

Not seeing "web design wrexham" anywhere on the site?(am i blind!?)

Page Title "Marketing and Web Design Wrexham"
H1 - ? (assuming you might not want to change this)
H2 Web Design Wrexham (instead of just "Web Design")
Body - Gotta get the entire keyphrase in and bolded/italics at least a few times. (my opinion, not everyone's)

Google might take a few weeks or so re-listing you higher but with some basic changes like that you would stand a far higher chance of ranking better. Mix in a bunch of half decent articles distributed via Isnare or some other distribution agency and page one should be possible without too much additional SEO.

Having looked at your competition, you are up against other web design agencies who have done some half decent onsite optimisation so it's possible you are going to need a few decent inbounds too though if you want to appear higher up the list.

"Web Design Wrexham" gets approx 260 monthly searches so really you want to be top3 to capture any of them, good news on this though is that people shop around for this style of service/product so assuming you can get top 10 you might find yourself with a few daily visitors. It's not going to open the floodgates even by being no1 though.

I, too, am trying to get my head around this SEO lark. What I'm trying to understand is the benefit of article submission:

Did you get those 2K visitors because they clicked on a link in the article, or did you get the visitors because the link in the article gave you 'link juice' propelling you up the rankings and thus gaining more visitors because of a higher ranking?

I know visitors are visitors, I'm just trying to understand the mechanics behind the whole thing.

Thanks

Jeff

Don't be too disheartened. I've noticed this a lot recently, especially if I'm logged into my Google account - the beginnings of personalized search.

This is just one of the reasons I'm not a fan of personalised search. All personalised search does is give me content that people like me may want to land on, which in turn makes me a little less "me" as an individual.

Sorry - off topic whining..:D

Hello there,

Recently Google decided to implement a change whereby SEO and web design were no longer affected by local searches.

It is likely you are logged into Google for example: Gmail, or that you have your website cached.

SEO takes time to do properly and can take years to learn to an expert level, keep trying and good luck!

Was just going to suggest this. There is a link in the search results in the top right of the page that says "view customisations" and you can see the normal ones using that.

I've been fooled a few times by this sadly. You can remove the search history from your Google account so you don't get stung in the future, again by click the "view customisations" link.

Yeah, always ensure you are signed out of your Google account when checking your own rankings. As others have mentioned, Google will prioritise your search results based on your browsing history... Whether you use Search Wiki or not! Heh

I think its temporary, sooner or later after a couple of visits Google will rate it where the ideal place should be

Change your page title and you will be on page 1 within a couple of days. To prove the point, you are on page 1 for 'graphic design wrexham' but I suspect less people search for this than searxch for 'website design wrexham' :D
