Welcome to your first UK Business Forums members update for the New Year to members new and old, this email update brings our 20th year of supporting UK business owners to a close. I often reminisce of my time at the beginning of UK Business Forums, working from my kitchen table running my company formation business and promoting UKBF to everyone who registered their Limited company through my then business, Quick Formations.
Times have moved on. I may have sold Quick Formations nearly 10 years ago but UK Business Forums is still around for more than 20 years as a place to bring small business owners, sole traders and side hustle entrepreneurs together.
Thank you for being a part of this great business community, and I look forward to connecting with you in our forums and perhaps face-to-face later this year when we restart our events around the UK!

Business Member in Focus
Our current member in focus is a name many regulars will be familiar with, 'Lisa Thomas'. An active and engaged member of the community since 2015, always on hand in the legal and insolvency area of the forums helping business owners who may find themselves and their business in financial difficulty.
In her member in focus article, Lisa shares how she started her career in Insolvency and some of the concerns she has regards to the perception of her industry and how that can put business owners off getting the right advice before it can be too late. Read this Member in Focus piece here.
Have you taken the leap yet?
I know from both data available from the Government as well as my years running a company registration business, that the start of every year is a boom time when more people make the decision to start their own business than any other time of the year.
Have you taken that step, or are you keeping an eye over the fence and waiting for the right time to start?
In December I wrote a short article on deciding whether this year is the right time to take that leap and start your own business. Is this the year to launch your business?

In 2024 look after your wellbeing
With so many people starting out for the first time in business this month, we’re expecting to see an increase in new members joining UKBF, and many of them may not realise what a mentally challenging journey they are embarking on.
It’s worth reflecting on a past guest of the Drive podcast, Harry Cramer, who runs a business focused on supporting occupational health and wellbeing. Have a listen on Spotify or Apple.
Another one of the challenges that being a part of UKBF helps combat is loneliness as a business owner, and an article we published a few months ago which I contributed to covers ways to combat loneliness when starting out alone in business.
