Web Hosting Recommendation

I don't need any ecommerce.

Currently use Wix with a 3 year plan coming to an end this year. They originally charged £7 a month but this will go up to £16 a month,

We have a fairly static website. Change the images on it periodically. Nothing too fancy. We use Facebook for our regular news and updates.

Will probably stay with Wix as it's there and works. I used their tools to build the current website as I'm not too technical. They have a what you see is what you get type interface to build the site.

However any recommendations appreciated as now may be the time to change.

New provider must be able to:

Allow entry of dns records for email (we use Microsoft for email).
Allow user to create their own site using a simple what you see is what you get type interface.

If your Wix site has all the functionality you need and you don't need search engine results and ranking, stay with them.

Otherwise I'd recommend Krystal Hosting and a Wordpress install.

I already appear in the top 3 for the type of business I run in my area.

I paid someone separately to increase our rankings in searches sometime ago.

Is there something else I’m not aware of that can’t be done on a Wix site that I should be doing.

I currently use Krystal hosting and have a plan for a max of 50 websites that is £35 per month. I think for just one its about £7 also. (You always pay more for just one)

If you are happy with Wix I'd stay there, but if you were looking to start a site now and looking for recommendations I wouldn't ever suggest Wix.

To answer the the last question in this message, although everyone is saying not to use WIx (and for some good reasons), if you still do decide to use it, there are things you can do to make it the best it can be.

For example, you mention uploading and switching images - try to optimise these as much as possible before using them, as oversized/unoptimised images will slow your loads page load speeds down.

I'm not an advocate of WIx, but it can serve a purpose if your website isn't the main source of lead generation and sales.

£7/month (or £16/month that they want to charge) is quite expensive, at least for a static website.

Another option is a web host using cPanel. cPanel is the number 1 web hosting control panel.

cPanel now includes the Sitejet website builder.

Plans are around £2-3/month and will likely do a far better job.

It's a very advanced website builder that agencies also use. You can use the basic features too.

Also, using cPanel doesn't lock you in with a provider, such as Wix. Many web hosts use cPanel, so you can quickly move your Sitejet site to a different web host anytime. The web host only needs to copy the cPanel account to their server, and the website created with Sitejet will usually continue to work.

For a static website, £7 a month is too much. cPanel-based shared hosting plans are quite cost-effective. Normally a website builder is included in most of the cPanel hosting plans. Your requirements can be easily fulfilled with a £2 - £4 per month shared plan. Along with the website builder, you can also explore WordPress within the same hosting plan without paying any additional charges for it.

Right, and you can easily achieve this with a hosting provider in that budget. The price mentioned is for a basic cPanel-based shared hosting plan. For static websites, the client normally needs assistance with pointing the domain and uploading the websites through File Manager or FTP. Even if the client is not from a technical background, the hosting support team can get this done for him or the client himself can refer to the video tutorials and complete the required steps.

Or, you can pay a bit more and get 24 hour phone support with UK based tech support, for your UK data centre hosted website. And they don't just point you in the right direction, they tell you what they are doing, while they're doing it.

You get what you pay for.

On my point of view Milesweb is kinda right. Web hosting as we know basically on shared hosting is not that much costly. If you don't have huge numbers of daily visitor you can go with them. But I will suggest you to get maximam amount of core and ram from good provider.

my recommendation with quick support is:
    1. Cloudways
    2. Racknerd
    3. Verpex/hostinger

Nope. Having run a web agency for about 15 years, often new clients don't host with us and we have to work with their existing hosting provider.

None of the cheap ones are ever any good.

They take ages to reply and when they do they regurgitate some scripted template that doesn't answer the question.

    Hosting a static website
The OP has used the word "static" incorrectly. A static website is one that's made purely of HTML. But in this case the OP is talking about a CMS-driven website which means it is actually dynamic.

Seems like you're not completely happy with Wix as you asked for recommendations! And they're offering you a large discount so you are in contract with them for many years. Once you accept, you can't move or risk losing out on the money you spent. Before, you take the offer, shop around first. It's not difficult to move to a different host.
