Hi all,

I'm looking for a web designer to create me an online store, from scratch. something modern and fresh looking, SEO, that allows cross selling, unlimited catorgeries, unlimited products with bulk CSV upload.

Something like tooled-up.com . Currently looking for quotes or idea's.

Hosting not required within price.

Any help appreciated.

Since they built tooled-up, which you seem to like.

Plus you will need to define from scratch, do you mean bespoke (expensive) or do you mean compete design and functionality but are happy with an open source site like OScommerce or Zen Cart (cheaper)?

I think that's a fair ball park figure, somewhere between 5k to 10k depending on the size of web design company you use.

You could save yourself thousands by engaging with an open source expert to customise one of the free to use packages?

I can't see it being too hard to make something similar to tooled-up.com. If you use osCommerce (as an example) then it has the resources for most of the features on tooled-up and with some custom coding you could make the features it maybe missing. (for example if you click on certain products it says "The above item comes complete with the following as standard...")

Using an open source project like osCommerce you could probably have this made for between £1000 and £2000, without a detailed look I can't see all the features it has but if using an open source project is an option then let us know and we will take a detailed look for you.

i agree with the above statements, using an open source shopping cart solution would be the best bet. All of our clients opted to use preexisting solutions which for between £1,000 and £1,750 we have customized to their needs.

Building from scratch is very expensive and why reinvent the wheel in this case.

Just consider the flexibility you need with things like importing SKU's for industry standards and the regulations govening some of the tool/building trade like gas storage and so forth.

Off the shelf is good but you have to weigh your needs up. Are you going to be taking or giving product feeds out?

What are your business intelligance needs. Are you going to tie the website to a back office system for realtime pricing, fulfillment, shipping, purchasing, stocking levels.

Are you looking to directly tie in digital marketing to the site and user tracking.

Are you going to need clearly defined product schema's to move between different systems.

Bespoke doesnt need to be expensive and off the shelf is good for a lot of things. It all depends on what you need and want none of the big players (DIY.com, screwfix) use off the shelf because they have a lot of complex needs and some of the ways there systems need to work dont suit a prebuilt solution.

Just a few things to consider when you look at deciding how the site will grow in three - five years time.

We use Indian based companies for e commerce web sites.

Buy you have to be aware that the quality and service level are very different to UK providers.

Inidia seems to think SEO is submmiting you to 1000 link databases !

7k might become 3k in Inidia, but the time required to manage them is 10X more.

if your looking for a modern, creative site that will increase sales you are looking in the 6-12k region dependant on content and features.

We do alot of work for the Guardian and Bob Dylan's Artwork. launching it in the UK our site lead to a profit increase of about 12%, adds up to quite alot when your talking that sort of money.
