I would say this month seems to have been the quietest since the pandemic - is anyone else finding the same ?

Im guessing its a mix of covid, summer holidays and the warm weather.
 
That would depend entirely on the type of business you are in. Without knowing your business type it's a bit like saying ' there's some weather outside today, anyone else got weather outside?'

Been in business over 20 years, this time of year we always expect low sales. Quarter 3 can be the lowest quarter of the year some years.
Add in release from covid rules, first decent chance of a holiday in quite some time and the nice weather.....
I'm surprised the sales are not lower than they are currently.

Things will settle down. People will plan for a great Christmas, next year etc.

Busier than ever. Almost got too much work. Might have to offload some of it to one of those Indian companies who keep offering me their services. Or maybe not.

Quiet in terms if new sales but such a backlog of work from prior months still hell-for-leather overall, nice reprieve to start eating lead times down. As Mr D. says, can tend to have a summer lull around this time. I always say this when it gets this hot but I can see why the Med Italians and the Spaniards have a reputation for taking it a bit easier than their Northern cousins. I know we are less set up than these countries for heat (less A.C. etc.) and less used to it but by gad is it difficult to work in this heat. I suspect if the rest of the country's output has dropped like mine then there is a lot less being done.

Same here. My courier collects from a big mail order warehouse before coming to me. He always has an almost empty lorry when things are quiet for me. I worry when he has a huge load but my sales are low :)

We are a little quieter but I think it was to be expected. We have been very busy during the stamp duty holiday so now I am at a stage where I can have a breather and it is quite nice.

But there are plenty of reasons why July would be quiet:
The euros - it is always quieter for us during the big tournaments, I expect it to be the same next year for the world cup.
We have all had restrictions in place for 18 months. Those have been lifted significantly in the last few weeks/months.
School holidays.
Hot weather.

You can always find reasons, but July is ok for us unless there is football on. This year has just been skewed because of the stamp duty holiday.

Depending on how long you have been in business you can can start to see trends of when it will be busy or quiet. I know it is usually quiet in early september when the kids go back, it also dies down around mid november for a couple of weeks.

I had a good chat with one of my regular supplier contacts yesterday.

His view exactly reflected my own - lots of enquiries start with enthusiasm; them fizzle as the business owner goes away to 'wait and see what happens'.

My lead time is usually 3 - 6 months; I'm currently working on 12 mths.

Fortunately a little, busy niche has landed in my path to pay the bills.

Its steady and numbers are up, but also taken on new people for new ranges being produced from new machines, so come last quarter should be in a position to benefit from more sales volume. We are 100% online. Oh and we have started our "lean" manufacturing journey too so alot going on
