Kier Starmer has come out against them as have the LibDems, I don't think they're a runner, thank Gawd. As you say, due to phenomenal success of the vaccines and their almost unbelievable effectiveness (at preventing serious illness), they are not necessary anyway.
Internationally they are probably inevitable, unfortunately.

Strange position for Labour, being against the government?

Remember to sign into our outside gardens on April 12th..
A virus so dangerous atm, you won’t have to sign in at a Supermarket...
Indoors...
Hundreds of other people...
All touching things, leaning across one another...

Science matters.

In the supermarket people are not removing their masks. No need to.
Do not know about you but I use gloves in the supermarket. And surprising how many sealed items are for sale there.

Leaning across each other? Never seen that happen in a supermarket. This is not a game of twister.

You completely have no business idea do you as I said before, you have no sympathy or care for other industries or empathy towards business owners or their employees- stick to selling your trinkets on eBay.

On the ignore list.

Vaccine passports are an awful idea and I desperately hope they never come to pass. AS I have said on another thread on those subject they are decidedly impractical as well as being unnecessary because we have the vaccines.
Here's a classic example of just how impractical they are.
A couple get married at a country house (or similar)
They invite all their friends and close family.
One, or more, turn up on the day but have no vaccine passport.
What happens ?
Madness. Post rational.

All hospitality businesses have received a email from the Govt threatening to fine us £1,000 if we do not get everyone to sign in on entry. We are being bullied and coerced.

Don't do it and you will lose customers who don't like the fact you don't follow the rules and don't care

They will just avoid using you again after they see you don't care. And tell others as well.

You will lose far more than you will gain any that are happy and get a kick out of it because you dont follow the rules.

It's going to be hard for you regardless. But if I were you I wouldn't alienate people just because you aren't happy with the rules personally

But it's your business so it's entirely up to you.

The majority of the UK don't think like you

They will go to the businesses that show they care and act professionally

Just saying.......

They go home without attending the wedding?

Why did they go there to start with?

Madness?

And yet I currently run 3 successful businesses. Strange that I have no business idea. Perhaps my opinion of my businesses counts more than your fantasies about my businesses.

No sympathy or care for other industries? Sure I have - if they are safe to use. Perhaps you are wanting them to be unsafe simply to satisfy your ideology?

Take hospitality - you don't want people signing in on entry. Now suppose someone tests positive a few days later and the tracing service want to find out who else was around them at that establishment. How do they do it?

You mean exactly as happens when a couple decide to get married abroad and one person who was invited turns up at the airport without their passport?
Gosh, whatever do people do?

By what has been said over the years, carry on with the wedding. Strangely its never the bride and groom who turn up without means to enter a foreign country.

We have a Derby city football fan club on Monday nights here in Loughborough and I can guarantee you now that if passports are made law you can write off that night as another loss making day. We are being squeezed by every angle.

This is not about a virus.

What is a Derby City Football Fan Club?

And why would vaccine passports stop it happening?

Do you mean a Derby County Football Supporters Club?

If so why on earth would having to sign in stop them attending?

So what would stop them attending?

What safety measures can you put in place to make it safe for those people to attend such that they don't fear attending?
Perhaps following government guidance? Perhaps going beyond that and making things even safer - and shouting about it to the customers!

I fear the hospitality industry (and I've been very much part of it for many years) is going to start finding out that with or without Covid and with or without rules people will have changed their habits a bit about what and how they like to do things

Just seeing family at home or outside etc will be a start for many

They won't be flocking back to pubs like before Covid

The industry will need to adjust accordingly

I do sympathise with you, I know it must be a nightmare now in your industry. Unfortunately it is what it is. How much do you get fined for serving someone under 18? You have more legislation because of the business you are in. Its another piece of red tape to comply with. Whats the option? stay closed (whether thats fair or not) Your customers, on the whole, want to see you take their safety seriously, its a pain, a pain we are all affected by unfortunately.

Presumably (hopefully) that will mean they can prove that hospitality is not a spreader but, obviously, unless it is universal (all places) it is meaningless. I am not sure I would want to live in a society where you had to report every place you visited. It is interesting there is no outcry over this, although there is over the passport idea.

Can people sign in using the NHS covid app, or does the establishment need to keep its own record?

Look what happened last summer. Pubs all opened and were packed out?
My local pub has been considerably fuller - the eat out to help out made a difference apparently - while it lasted. Afterwards? Weekends at my village pub were quieter than pre-covid midweek!

From what was reported in the press, signing in using app was the other option.
Though not everyone would have the app or have their phone on them.

Only people who choose not to check in by scanning a QR code in the NHS app will need to give their details. If you check in with the app, the record of you visiting the venue only exists on your phone and does not get sent to anyone else unless you enter a positive test result and choose to share your close contact and check in data.

How does the venue check that someone has actually scanned the QR code, and not just pretended to do so?

They could simply require check in by everyone in writing instead.

Forgot could of course simply refuse to allow people inside, much easier for him and he can keep to his own ideas about getting people's details.
    And much safer all around.

Ask the customer to show the confirmation screen after they've checked in? That's what I did last time I went to a pub before the November lockdown.

I'm pretty sure the regulations are that anyone who has checked in with the app is not required to give their details, which allows customers who choose to use the app to maintain their privacy.

Could they not just microchip everyone, similar to a dog? Then people could automatically be tracked when entering the pub. Would save a lot of time maybe cut down on crime too. They could scan your head to make a payment, no need for cash, sounds like its got legs.:)

    Check the figures

Only just above half the pubs in UK opened when they were allowed

And they operated at 50 per cent their normal weekly turnovers whilst open despite not having all their competitors open with them

I went out a lot last summer with eat out to help out

The places with outdoor food did ok. The pubs that opened struggled badly overall.

We must resist this firmly otherwise I don’t believe we will ever get back to normal. There is a huge danger that the zero risk brigade will impose their will on everyone destroying all freedoms in the name of “safety”

Still waiting for you to explain how a football supporters club meeting on a Monday night (I think that's what you have) is not going to be viable if attendees have to sign in?

I am intrigued why that would stop it happening?

Stick some sort of bar code on your head. Starting with say 666.....

Seriously the idea of carrying ID in a microchip that cannot be removed without major trauma is one that has been discussed many times over the years. And is far more viable now than 20 years ago.

Well, I certainly won't. But I would if I knew that there were only other vaccinated people in the room. Having spent over a year shielding I am not about to go into crowded places where apparently only 25% of the population with symptoms stay at home.

    Cannot blame you.

If millions follow the same ..... it will be a major change in business.

Those businesses that can adapt, that can tout the fact they protect customers, that do actually protect customers - they will be the ones we end up going to.
    If we do go.

My local pub has a beer garden, be at least July before I go in the pub. Maybe much later in the year even.

Because the ‘crowd’ of lads that attend have told me so in the group WhatsApp chat, satisfied now?

This thing is dividing people and whatever you think or judgemental you are the ‘lads culture group’ which is quite a big driver of our business model and many sports type boozers are very anti health passports and it looks like most MP’s are now from latest news reports also repelling this so not sure why you and D and a few others are so happy to get walked over so easily and happily hand over your freedoms so readily.

You need a passport to travel anywhere abroad.
You will not need a Covid passport to do everything in the UK.
It is a completely different situation.
Plus, of course, we do not need vaccine passports because :
1 - We have vaccinated over 31 million : FACT
2 - The great majority of those left unvaccinated are not significantly vulnerable to Covid - FACT
3 - The vaccines are all nearly 100% effective at preventing serious illness with all known variants - FACT

Rational conclusion : We do not need vaccine passports, or, in fact, any suppression measures at all.

I'm quite happy to avoid places I don't feel safe in. I'm as free now as I was in 2019, 2018 etc.
Unlike you my freedom doesn't come from government.

How many millions will decide to avoid places that they consider 'unsafe'? I'm sure your competitors will be glad to deal with your customers for you.

Disagree with government policy, by all means. Just expect it to have consequences.

Getting more and more confident that MPs are listening over domestic VaccinePassports

They know it’s wrong, how many will want to be remembered as facilitating a divided nation and collapsing the Hospitality industry.

Just a few of you on here left defending them I guess, and we all know who you are and let’s be honest your not really the pub types are you? You have completely mis read the room here but thought you were clever as were backing your masters regardless. I am sorry we won’t be seeing you in any pub anytime soon.

No, not really the pub type.
Used to use them quite a lot. Meeting up with friends, occasionally seeing a local group perform at one.
Plus of course the usual family meals.

Probably 40 plus times I went to pubs in 2019. Apparently that is above average but you say I am not really the pub type.

Do you know what a pub type is or are you trying out a different fantasy?
