Hello all,

Does anyone have experience of using a large screen (46"+) plasma/LCD/LED telly to advertise in their shop windows?

We're looking at possibility of mounting one facing outwards and running slideshows, adverts etc for the shop.

Any technical tips on what type of unit to use? Obviously needs to be bright, high contrast stuff to attract passers by. Footpath is around 20 feet in front of shop, across a small car park.

Don't want to spend more than £1000, so high-end media display panels are out.

Thanks in advance!

With the viewers 20' away, get the biggest panel you can afford.

As for the messages, they have to be big, easy to read and to the point!

Hi,

If you are connecting the screen to a laptop/computer there are plenty of free digital signage products on the web that would work well for you. You will be able to have more dynamic screen content and vary it throughout the day to keep it fresh without having to have manual input all the time.

A neat trick I've seen done in some high-end travel agents is not to put a big TV there at all - put up a panel of some fine semi-transparent material and use a projector to throw an image onto it from inside the shop - it'll be perfectly visible from outside and the effect is a moving image that's suspended in mid-air.

I suspect you'd need a very powerful projector for this to work in practise.

When I had retail IT premises I had a TV at the end of each window with a camera linked to each.

It became a standing feature in the town as people would walk past it and make faces or even "flash" on a Friday and saturday night.

The thing is, because they saw themselves on camera they were sure it was being recorded and whilst they were turned on, we never got broken into or our windows broken. During the day we put adverts on.

Remember that you'll have a merry old dance with the TV licencing brigade over it though. We got them to back off after a couple of years because we didn't have an aerial.
