Hi

I have a UK orientated.com website hosted on my VPS....Based in the UK
I have now a .us version of said website , And I am thinking of hosting .us website on my same VPS server...just wanted thoughts on SEO /location effect etc...,would link juice from .com help the website .us ...
I know there has been debate in the past about where a website is hosted as regards visitors and it`s effects...which I believe nowadays is not so much relevant as I understand 1and1.co.uk is hosted in Germany..although understand the european angle

Latency is major factor here .. and as recent google update works more on local search result its recommend to host UK sites on UK Server and if you have US version of your site to target US customers its always better to host it on US server that will surely give you much benefits.

Doesn't hugely matter. The location setting in Google WMT and the TLD matter a lot more.

Hmm...interesting....the domain name .com is a TLD and is ranking fairly high in it`s niche..has been around for about 5 years...obviously has google analytics etc installed and I would prefer to host the .us version on the uk VPS...get some link juice from the .com so it will help while I am seoing the .us

Interestingly, have you thought about using your .com to also target america? Look into using subfolders to target new countries. This article I found to be a good starting point:

Great minds think alike and all that! I'm just starting to see google catching on with what I'm doing with mine now, which isn't bad considering I only submitted it to webmaster tools on saturday.

If moving the site is not an option I would go for a CDN to boost performance, I have been using CloudFlare.com on my ecommerce site as they take care of performance and also SSL for $20 a month.

Hi, Until 1st August this year we had a UK site hosted on an American server (jigthings.com) and a US site hosted on the same American server (puzzleorganizer.com).

After a whole lot of soul-searching and research we decided to streamline the business and bring it all together on one domain (jigthings.com) and host it in the UK. We then held our breath expecting that there might be some major shifts in ranking.

Now, one month on from the big changeover we find that rankings in both the UK and the US are extremely similar to what they were before the change. We were very careful with redirects and Google geotargeting and I think they are the all important factors. Hope that helps. Colin

It's not actually much about where it is hosted, as it is about the quality of the hosting. Most cheap hosting - if you were to analyse it as i have over the years, actually results in your site being down for more than 50% of the time - but you don't normally site watching it do all the time, do you?
Link juice is not an issue, as this is not in any search engine algorithm.
We host US, Irish, French and other nationalities sites from here, and have had no issues whatsoever, with the proviso that it is a TLD.
1 and 1 hosting (don't get me started!)

One of our thoughts when deciding to bring everything together in one domain was that it is beneficial to aggregate all the link juice into one domain sooner than split it between two different domains. Do you think this is a justifiable assumption?

Yes Colin, for that reason. If you have built value on a domain with good link partners, and they are ethical, then of course you want to keep that value

Why anyone would have any dealing with 1&1 escapes me...

Guys...or ladies for that matter

Thank you for your replies so far...decided to stick on our current server in the UK...which by no means is cheap hosting ...
Current site has good domain authority/link juice and is clean
and no would never touch 1and1 ...not even if they paid me!
