I have just set up a limited company and am trying to register online with HMRC for VAT but it is asking for a unique tax reference and an office number.

any ideas on how to get these as the HMRC site is most unhelpful and sends around in circles:eek:

Just set up the company, you would need to register with the HMRC first, then you will receive UTR number (10 digit number), then go ahead and register for VAT, but do count for VAT already if liable, process of registration is a bit timely.

If you are registered already then see any letter from HMRC it is usually at the top of the page on any letter reffered to you (10 digit number)

I had the same recently but found that I did not need it for VAT registration, only corporation tax registration.

Just leave it blank in the VAT registration page.
