UKBF Link Club

Not sure is this has been discussed before or even if there is real benefit (SEO experts....), but is there a benefit to have a system of agreed link sharing i.e. add it to a list on the forum somewhere and club members (or any one!) can add it to their own site.

Sure there is a large trust element, but is a majority play the game, it will benefit us all.

Maybe have a forum category, where a members starts a thread with their URL. If you link to that site, you add your URL, so it can be easily checked and reciprocated!

Silly?

I don't think it's a great idea, sorry. It sounds a bit like, from the way you described it, a link scheme, which isn't compatible with Google's guidelines with just the intention of building links for the search engines. Not sure if that's very cool tbh.

Didn't Google state they could identify 3 way links a while back?

I think you need to consider link relevancy in such an arrangement, because the members of this forum are from such a diverse number of backgrounds it would be difficult to keep links to a theme.

Every site would require its own mini directory and then you would also need to ensure that all those link exchange pages appeared in Google's main index to be of any benefit to the site you were linking to.

I do not think that Google would point such an association of link exchanges as unethical. As this would be similar to a standard procedure of getting links, that is through manual request.

Also, there would be a mutual consent to the link exchange.

I think the key is not to stray too far from the main theme of your website or create a lot more content relevant to the websites you hope to trade links with.

If more and more webmasters become too cynical/scared/can't be arsed to link, search engines will have very little information to use in order to determine relevancy and the quality of SERPs will become even worse than they are now.

Perhaps UKBF could see about organising the users into categories?

this would be a worthwhile exercise if members could get niche / relevant links - although recips would not be worth it, there must be a way of this benefiting the members though.
