Type of solicitor needed/recomended

I'll cut a very long story short but I need a solicitor to review a 7 year telecommunication contract which one of our directors signed for. He thought it was for 24 months but it's actually 84 in the small print!!
I tried to cancel it but was told it was B2B. The service hasn't even started yet.

I've just been reading ofcom guidance and micro enterprises (which we are) should only be a maximum of 24 months contract anyway.

Can anyone advice the type of solicitor that would be best to deal with this?

P.s. If I can cancel/void the contract I can avoid dissolving the company. Another long story.

I bet I can even guess who the contract was with.

You need a solicitor who specialises in contract law, but it won't come cheap and doesn't come with any certainty of success

There have been several 'class actions' around these contracts - most of which have fizzled out (with a sub text that they may have been quietly settled)

Your case really needs to hinge around overt dishonesty - proving that you were lied to about the terms of the contract

Ron, happy to do free triage with one of the firms I consult for. B2B does not mean that terms will not fall foul of Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977 as these are standard terms. Do get in touch.

As it is a B2B contract, it does rely on directors to scrutinise the small print, and unfortuantely businesses do not get cooling off periods or other protections by default like with consumer contracts.

Does the contract actually say 24 months (say in big writing) but the small print 84 months? You may have a case here the director was misled. Also the fact they have not even started the service puts you in a better position. They may be able to cancel but you still might get billed for costs to date, or an admin/cancellation charge which should be in the contract.

A Contract Law specialist should be able to review the contract signed and other communications between the companies and advise further.
