Hi Guys, I've recently created my website (you can see it in my profile) its ReynoldsDigital (you have to add the com as can't post links yet). I am looking to market myself to the trades in North, West & East London. I have created sites for plumbers, electricians, photographers etc and find this is a good market to tackle as I can sell the sites for a good price.

I am trying to market myself better at the moment. I am top of Google maps, hopefully be top of google for north london soon and have registered for the free indexes (although not too convinced they are any good). I am looking to cold call businesses, mainly trades, to increase awareness. Most of the sites I have seen so far are shocking to say the least so I think its is a good market. Other than recommendations, do you have any other tips on gaining new clients.

One thing I would like to avoid are startup dreamers. I get a lot of calls from people wanting a website for £200 or to build it a page at a time as they get the money. These are far too much hassle and they call you every other day with a problem. I'm looking for established businesses that can spend £1500 - £3000 on a site that is good quality. If cold calling is the best way, do you have any tips on how to go about this the best way without seeming like a slimy sales person?

Networking groups have worked really well for our sister company who deals with bespoke sites in the exact price range you're talking about. They can vary wildly between all 'professionals' (eg law, finance etc) to mainly tradesmen.

If you do have anyone after a cheap solution feel free to send them our way ;)

Best of luck!

Oh I know exactly what you mean! But clients won't always see eye to eye and might not want you to change their shocking designs.

You could try snail mail marketing, just introduce yourself in a brief letter, give them a call to action (visit your website), give them an offer (reply this month to receive 500 free business cards). Enclose a business card, hand sign your letter, put into a handwritten envelope. Then follow up with a phone call, keep it casual and the letter is a good conversation starter.

Ugh.

White on black is not so good and everything I see talks about how good you are rather than what you can do for me. There doesn't even seem to be a navigation system, I wanted to read your testimonials or find out more about SEO but to no avail. Still not convinced a mobile only is the right answer - looks like a bloke working out of his bedroom (especially as you don't publish your address).

Could say more but this is treading on website review territory and that's for full members only.

Agree with PoD - why just North London, I get calls from all over the UK.

fisicx - thanks for your comments. I agree that the site needs more pages but at present I don't have enough material to fill them and don't want to put them up just for the sake of having more pages. I will add a blog, portfolio page, contact page, services page etc later but for now I just want to do a decent 1 page site.

I will look at the copy, maybe I do speak a bit too much about myself, and I know most people don't really care as they just want to kow what yu can do for them. Again I will expand on my services once I have the time. As for the white on black, I know it should be a no no as harder to read but I like the look of it, personal preference so I'm going to keep that. Ta.
