What's the point? Can I get my own? I'd like a Solar Accounts forum, an Apache forum, a mySQL forum, a PHP forum, a .NET forum, a Windows SBS 2008 Standard forum, a Microsoft Exchange forum, a Ubuntu forum, a CentOS forum, a Windows XP SP3 forum, a vBulletin forum, a mIRC forum, an UltraVNC forum, a Office 2003/2007 forum, a Photoshop forum, and a Dreamweaver forum please.


... Seriously though, why not just have those questions in the Accountin forums?

'cause then Duane would want a Kashflow one (he nearly got one there but they spelt it wrong!)

and Sage would want a herb forum

Recipe for Mixed bean counter goulash

1.[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]Heat the oil in a large saucepan, then fry the onion for 5 mins until beginning to soften. Add the paprika and cook for a further min, then stir in the tomatoes and 1⁄2 a can of water. Simmer gently for 10 mins until thickened and glossy.


2.[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]Tip in the mixed beans and continue to cook for a further 2 mins to just heat through the beans. Spoon into warm bowls and serve with soured cream and toasted ciabatta slices, drizzled with olive oil.

I'm speculating here in lieu of an authorative answer from Sift....

But I'd guess it's a commercial arrangement between Sage (owners of TAS) and Sift. Companies get sold on the idea that their own forum/automated community engagement is a great way to market themselves.

Official word here is: we're waiting for the lovely peeps at TAS to jump on board, they're a bit frightened of you 'orrible lot though (joking!).

Keep your eyes peeled folks, things should get going in there pretty soon.

So if we spend enough on advertising we can have our own dedicated section on UKBF! Great! how much is it please? :)

No, no! No one upset, sorry, not my intention. I wasn't sure if Crewgirl was being serious, so thought I'd drop in a response anyway.

Andy is as a 'mod' because he needs that level of admin access, unfortunately the vBulletin only offers a limited number of titles for levels of access; he has no need to actually moderate here, we have a team dedicated to that already but he does need to have access. Hope that clears that one up Geoff.

Now I feel like I've just given evidence at a trial - yikes! In all seriousness though, didn't mean to be "frosty" :)

To clarify: I was half serious, I am considering ads on UKBF. My point about getting your own dedicated section if you spend enough, although ironic, was an attempt to elicit a response. It was just my way of pushing buttons in an attempt to get behind and understand a little about the prevailing ethos of the management when it comes to high spending advertisers on UKBF. :)

Just speculation again as I know nothing about the TAS deal, but based on my own dealings with Sift and advertising....

They wouldn't have got "given" a dedicated forum due to the money they spend on advertising elsewhere with Sift. They'd have paid specifically for the privilege.

Like any company selling advertising space online, Sift need to come up with more innovative ways of getting brands in front of users besides just banner ads. Sponsored/dedicated forums appear to be one of them.

If it brings in cash for Sift that contributes towards the cost of running the forum then I don't see a problem with it.

I agree up to a point. Yes, it's good Sift getting paid and the forums continuing, but surely a line should be drawn?

Just creating a forum for the sake of having it there is poor management in my opinion. If the TAS forum had to exist, surely it should be a sub-forum of something like the Accounts and Finance forum?

At the end of the day, these forums are only of use if there's relevant material in them. At the moment, there's not - so I don't forsee a use for it being there.

I would also argue that it's a bit silly having a massive forum for (probably) very little posts. It's the old addage of buying a helicopter when you just nip two doors down the road to the local cornershoppie every day.

Just my personal opinion on this, but I wouldn't have the TAS forum at all. I'd have a sub-forum in the Accounts section.

Stugster, you make sensible and interesting comments there, thanks. And yes, there may seem at the moment to be little logic in what we've done so far, but this is part of a bigger idea we are experimenting with along the way. The eventual concept is for it to develop into a users forum, that is why it is in a big forum all of its own.

I totally hear what you are saying, and I am forcing conversations here with the relevant people to express all of your thoughts.

Having advertisements is one thing, but having a <commercial.product> forum implies an endorsement of that product, and I think that compromises the impartiality of this forum, where otherwise we are free to recommend, or not, any commercial products we care to discuss. (Subject to libel considerations).

Quite rightly, the posters who contribute content here are forbidden from blatant advertising, and that helps keeps the content free of any slant towards a particular commercial interest.

So I think it's a step in the wrong direction. Let's keep the content and the advertising on this forum entirely separate.

I made the first post and estwig deleted it:D

I may be a collegue of Becky soon as I will be applying with my CV for part-time job working from home with Sift after 14th June when I am handing one of my main responsibilities to soemone else. I am not doing it for the money but just for the experience to see how to create a forum myself and run it as I want to have one as well. will keep in touch bye
