Yeah - stop doing all of what you just said. For a start, it sounds like you have no idea what you are doing. Sorry for being so blunt. Log into your adwords account and place any campaigns on PAUSE this will earn you money straight away by not depleting your bank balance.
OK where to start!:
1. Press releases: Do not submit them to newspapers or magazines, unless you have something very very cool to say they are not going to get back to you. You are going the right direction though. Submit them to article directories and press release distribution companies. Free and paid. Do this often and alternate between press release and informative articles, include your link and anchor text of what keywords you would like ranked for. Before adding your keywords, do some keywords research! Dono what keyword research is? Research keyword research!
2. Adwords: Hope you stopped the campaign by now and saved yourself some cash ;-) Don't even bother with adwords unless you have done keyword research, have a specific product to sell and have a sell page. Don't do adwords just to increase traffic and hope for a sale/conversion as this will decrease your conversion rate by several gazillion and you will be paying for someone to visit your site and leave on a higher ratio than if you had it set up to convert that visitor.
3. You said it was a new website, so take it slow and learn the ropes. You need to be doing a lot of reading if you want to monetise the site and it sounds like you are on the right tracks but just doing everything feet first. everything you mentioned are the best and appropriate ways to increase traffic but you need to be doing each one the correct way so one at a time.
In no particular order:
1. Article marketing.
2. Adwords campagins.
3. Contacting relevant sites for link swaps/link placement
4. Onsite SEO.
Learn about each one and you should be able to increase your traffic ten fold+
p.s. Don't by traffic, it doesn't work. popups, popunders etc... useless visitors that close your window as fast as it opens. Pointless.
