Telemarketing Questions

Hey all!

Just wanted to get some personal answers and anecdotes in addition to the market research I'm currently doing.

Does anyone here currently use old school telemarketing methods for their business? Or have they in the past?

If so, which industry, and what products were you selling? B2B or B2C?

Did you manage this internally, or did you hire a telemarketing agency or freelancers to do the work for you?

Looking forward to any replies and hopefully connecting to some people here!

Best regards,
Daniel

What industry are you in?

Helps people to provide more relevant answers.

Don't outsource offshore - India/Pakistan etc. They will promise all kinds of experience and ability and deliver none.

I'm actually in telemarketing myself. This question wasn't really for me to get advice for my business specifically, more just want to gain an idea of people's feelings and experiences when it comes to telesales.

I will hang up on anyone with an obvious Indian accent calling themselves "David" or some such.

Yes, I know some cultures like to adopt a western name, especially when they come to this country, and I had many colleagues who did so, but I still don't trust a cold caller doing so.

Have you ever been on the receiving end of what ended up being a successful cold call?

I had a call from Wade Wilson about a week after the Deadpool/wolverine movie came out. I made him repeat it twice coz I thought I'd misheard.

Tried it, hated it for my guys and it didn't work.

I personally do not take any cold calls.

We actually have a free anti-sales call tool for our customers - they love it.

No. All get now are prerecorded messages asking me to press 1 to speak to an agent to block the iPhone I brought on Amazon.

I did have one person call the other week and they hadn’t even bothered to check what I my business does.

    Avoid stupid questions like:

How are you today, have you had a good weekend and anything personal and please don't utter the words 'reaching out'.

Best to be brief and to the point

One thing we find super effective is to warm the person up at the other end. E.g. We have a social. If someone has engaged with our social, they know who we are, what our product is etc... And our social is naturally related to our product.

So calling someone who already knows us and likes what we have to say gets a good response.

So here's an example - so here's a vid talking about presenting on camera. So if someone's presenting on camera, they're probably in a position to buy video: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/paul...-i?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop

We've done this a few times and it works well.

Tele-selling can be extremely productive - always depending on how you approach it and what you are actually hoping to achieve.

I've cold-called throughout my (long) career - and can say with certainty that I've NEVER been told to F-off. Either my outstanding charisma, or the fact that those claiming to do so aren't being entirely honest.

Before the detail questions - how you introduce yourself, do you self-deprecate 'Sorry, it's one of those dreadful cold calls' etc, think about these 2 things

    1. Why are they likely to be interested? (not some horrid cliche, but something of direct relevance)

    2. What outcome are you looking for on the call? (If you're selling the opportunity to demo, don't benefit-sell the product)

And, on the back of an inbound yesterday, if you're on the phone for 16 minutes, be sure they they do more that 30 seconds talking!

When I had my company I gave many people a short interview for jobs, Unfortunately my first question was always "What do you know about my company" well over 75% did not know anything so that ended the interview
