Hi,

Like most small businesses i appreciate the need to develop contacts with like minded business people. However, i find the opportunities for networking are confined to Business Link or Chamber events. Does anyone know of any events in Suffolk that are more of a social network group rather than BNI type operation where selling is the goal?

Thanks

Rob

Hi,
We are in the process of setting up local online networking groups to promote informal and formal networking around the UK.

Here is a link to our newly formed group for Suffolk!:

on the 16th July 2009.

It's free to attend and sponsored by Microsoft, Blackberry and Bt Tradespace. More details can be found on the Business Scene page Business Networking Suffolk.

It would be nice to meet you all at the event.

Warm regards

Sarah

Hi there,

There's a very active group for SME's in East Anglia on the business networking site, Linked In. There are face to face networking opportunities and online discussions etc. I've found it really useful. If you PM me your email address I'll invite you to join and you can see what you think.

Regards,

Selina

PS I'll be at the event Sarah mentions above, in Brantham too!

You can now find connections to other business owners and managers in your local area through our My Local Group feature.

We connect you up with other business owners in the same postcode area as you. You can connect online, message those members of even broadcast to them all in one go using the Group Buzz facility.

Sorry to bump this thread, but I see we get a few clicks from it and that link is now broken. The one you need to find a local online networking group on our site is here.

HI.

This is a good question. I also would like to know if there is anyone with information. I have got my own online store which i have been running for almost 3 years. But sometimes you need people you can talk to or chat to discuss about your business ideas and inspirations.

The original thread is rather old, however I think the question is based around false assumptions. T

The goal of a "BNI type operation" is not selling, but creating and developing business relationships.

If anyone rocks up at a BNI type meeting trying to sell they will be seriously dissappointed, as perhaps the OP was.

What is the purpose of networking anyway if it is not to gain more business, if you are to gain more business then someone has to sell!

I am sure Rob would not complain if the other members of his networking group found him thousands of pounds of business each year.

If anyone is interested in networking in the Ipswich, Stowmarket area I would recommend BoB Clubs www.bobclubs.com

Hi Rob'
Just joined this site, noticed your post. We supply and manufactor hose and pipe assemblies etc. Also supply valves and fittings for gas and oil and have just recently taken onboard to the Venair range of silicon products used in just about all diesel engines, sold a few elbows and joiners now for mobile drilling platforms. We are based just up near colchester, but I live in Bildeston and grew up in Ipswich! I am sure there is some business we can do at some point in the future.

Good post Hosequip. That's just what Rob would have been looking for I would imagine.

I find the BNI or "Breakfast meeting" networking events quite hard going to be honest. Whenever I went along to these type of events it was not really networking, just a few regulars selling stuff to the new recruits.
