Stock control Software

Can you please help: We are looking for new stock control software to replace our in-house excel designed software which is no longer up to the job.

What do we do: We acquire luxury watches, restore and/or customise, then retail and wholesale the finish units in the UK and around the world via our web site, our own store and consignees etc.

Special requirements:

The buying and selling of units is pretty straight forward, the problem that rules out many software packages is the manufacturing process that is undertaken to restore or customise the units in that each unit is dismantled into multiple parts that are sent out to various outsourced workshops.

We need a package that in addition to recording unit acquisitions and sales can also track and record the manufacturing process, providing the workshop location of components at any given time and updating the cumulative unit cost as each component returns from its workshop, finally the software will need to track the location of finished units between in-house storage locations, consignees etc.

I don't have a clue about accounts so I'm better off staying off this thread but it sounds like you need some software which can handle reverse BOMs (Bill of materials). You can buy in a product and dismantle it in to it's components and place each component in to a Warehouse/BIN location (your various locations).

To get the multiple warehouse and BIN location features along with reverse BOM you are looking at a pretty expensive software package. Alternativley you could find out if someone can write some bespoke software which will talk to your accounts package.

Anjam is quite correct, you have specific requirements which, even if most of the functionality is "off the shelf" will also have to include a certain level of customisation.

If you are interested in looking at a possible solution that meets that criteria then I would be happy to talk to you about NetSuite but it is not something that would "just do stock control", it is a whole suite of modules that can run your business from end-to-end (eCommerce, CRM, inventory, financials, project management, the list is quite extensive).

It is also SaaS (Software as a Service) so should also be included in a complete strategy for the technology requirements of your business both now and in the future.

By the sound of it you are at a critical point where you are looking to resolve an immediate "pain" in your business - this should not be taken in isolation - you absolutely must map it out completely and in advance otherwise you'll find yourself looking at a bottomless pit and empty pockets.

Hi Mark, If you have not get anything yet, I think our software will do exactly what you need, you will find details on the OrderWise website, but it would be worth calling one of the business consultants as the website doesn't go into much details in regards to processing and reverse Bom etc as i think these will be the kind of features you need.
