Hello, I wanted to hear some advice on starting an office cleaning business as self employed.

I have many years of experience in cleaning, however, before opening a limited company I wanted to try reaching out in my area and seeing if I can get one or two offices to begin with and then open a limited company. What are your thoughts? Does this sound like a good way of starting an office cleaning business?

Yes.

Get those first contracts and see how it goes. Domestic cleaning is always very lucrative and it’s easy to get work. All you need is Google Business Profile and a bit of advertising on sites like NextDoor.

Unfortunately domestic cleaning is not a preferred option, I would like to start with office cleaning.
Do you have the contacts to get office cleaning contracts? Most business prefer to deal with an agency rather than one man and his mop.

Is having a Ltd Company a requirement for getting an office cleaning contract you are looking to get ? If not then don't start there straight away, get a couple of contracts as a sole trader first and then move forward from there.

Not sure what area you are from but I can imagine it's highly competitive. Building relationships with businesses would be a good start. You could offer a free trial service to a few local businesses, this could be upfront or after X amount of hours/jobs booked. Get a good offer together and start knocking on doors. As @fisicx said, those first few customers are important to gain those initial contracts, and to also understand the expectations and needs involved in office cleaning which is different to cleaning homes.

I think you have every chance of making a success, a limited company will make you look professional to the commercial market, good luck and keep us posted
