Mike I use Zone Alarm Security Suite. They've just added Adware and Spyware to their scanns and it works a treat.

I have a number of other tools I use on clients pc's - some of it can be quite nasty to get rid of. Are you comfortable with going in and editing your windows registry via >start >run >regedit ?

Another vote for zone alarm security suite - I have licensed all the computers at home.

I use Zone Alarms Security Suite, Adaware, Spybot Search and Destroy, Microsoft Antispyware and Spysweeper (I paid for that one). I have also used Hijack This.

Even with all of these I recently did an online trojan scan and it found things that all the others had missed. No, I didn't have to download a paid version to deal with these - I was able to deal with them with a free download.

I picked up a lot of really useful advice and help from an MSN group called Computer Interested Types - it's UK based and VERY friendly. Some of the members there are also experienced in analysing Hijack This logs.

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ is a good free online scanner

 

You may want to look up CWShredder on google
This will get rid of anything trying to hijack your homepage, Hijack this is also good but you need some pc knowledge to make sure your not getting rid of important stuff. I will agree that Adaware is the easiest way to get rid of spyware, so that should be the first thing you should download, always have a second, as they dont all cover everyting I would also suggest Spybot.
