Hi all,

This is my first post. I was just wondering which of the main Social Media platforms people find most effective?

I am having little luck getting my message across on Facebook, I have set up a fanpage and groups, yet it's attracting little interest

I look forward to your responses

Hi

We mostly use Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn from the Social Media websites. However, it takes time and effort to see results. You have to post regularly, for example, news related to your business or promotions you are doing. Just creating a profile will not do anything. There are many other Social Media websites but I think those are the most popular for people to notice you.

what other social media websites would you recommend in addition to those above.

Linkedin in great for enterprise related feed back. The ability to create sub groups related to your business or technology is a great way to connect with your clients and other business related contacts. If you already have a linkedin profile, that is a good start.
I use twitter on a regular basis and manage 4 technology related accounts. I find this a brilliant tool to connect with other user interested in the same topics in real time.

I would also recommend hootsuite for managing your social media world.

From Wikipedia: 'HootSuite is a social media communications dashboard often used for online brand management. It publishes to websites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Foursquare, MySpace, and WordPress. It is also a Twitter client.'

I find this covers my needs in terms of keyword news streams, trending topics, and reporting numbers concerning my twitter accounts. The ease of use and clarity of this web based social media management tool is extremely flexible and a pleasure to work with.

Twitter is big business for business! It's a lot easier to connect (if you use the right techniques) compared to Facebook.

The only thing with Twitter is it's harder to market to a specific region.

Anyway, I say, in my opinion, Twitter should be number 1 and then YouTube depending on the type of business and what it does/offers.

Have used the following:

- Twitter
- Facebook
- Linkedin
- Google+

Depending on the type of business adding other business in your local area can help
Same, found these both the most useful and enjoyable. Off course, I've started my own now at lion.co.uk so technically, I use five. :)

Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin are now an essential part of online marketing, you must use these and build things up slowly, be paitient, it will grow if you work at it....

I disagree with the approach of you must use this and that and the other.

It really depends on your business and how it all comes together for what you are using it for

My fav platforms are forums (obviously) and twitter but that won't be best for everyone :)

What I'd also say is the style is very important as its difficult to get your message out there if you are just broadcasting

Good luck :)

Hi,

If you are looking to start a social media campaign i think google+ will be the big hit in 2012 and will get bigger

Twitter - for discounts and deals

Youtube is also massive a short video can get you huge traffic....

Facebook will begin to slide downwards in the social media for businesses

Hope this helps....

Hi,

What i recommend is to use youtube to funnel people to your website dont use it to try and sell.

Use keywords in your title put your web address in the description

USe calls to action i.e like my video, share my video, post your video on facebook/twitter

Link it with a blog..

Hope these help

In order to get Facebook to work you need to like other people's pages and get them to like you back, write lots of messages that are interesting and personally although I get some business from Facebook I think all the social networks require more effort than justified by the results. That said some small businesses do very well. I have never been able to get business from twitter.

If you are a very small business and not in an obvious industry (like online marketing or SEO) the question you need to ask is: is your time best spent on Twitter or Facebook or are there other, more obviously productive ways to grow your business.

It's all too easy for consultants to say 'you HAVE to be on social networks' when the real question is 'WHY do I NEED to be on social networks'. Just my opinion.

I just think it's worth pursuing in the long run. Although there may be no instant gratification from it all, I am finding that the more of these Networks you register with the better as they tend to become affiliated with each other and you can build up quite a tidy little Empire and close in on Employers in your given field by getting email notifications daily to your area of expertise.

It may seem like a waste of time at first but Rome wasn't built in a Day and all that. Something's gotta give eventually. Here's another couple I found by basically just Networking..........

Agree with many of the points made above, Mickey is right to say you shouldn't necessarily try to 'sell' directly on social networks, thats not what they are about. But you can definitely use them to get traffic to your site and more importantly, build relationships. Social networks allow you to listen and engage, which can only be a good thing. Provide insight and advice and you will start to grow relationships, which can in turn lead to customers. Try treat it like normal, face to face (or forum networking), ask questions, publish thoughts and ideas.

Social Media searches can be very effective, if you search for a term, for example a problem your customers regularly come across (to which your product or services solves/fulfils a need), you will often find some talking about it. These could be seen as warm leads, or just people to engage with - you can learn more about the markets you are selling into, or the needs of the consumer by doing this.

Social Media gives customers different/new ways of contacting you, allowing the customer more control of the relationship. Social Media, is only going to grow and grow, so in my opinion it's inevitable that businesses will have to grow with and around it, you can't ignore the fact that 845million people use Facebook and there are over 2bn conversations a month taking place on twitter! I agree that the social business model will work much better for some companies than it will others, but its definitely and area that can be used, explored and harnessed by most business today.
