Selling on Amazon

Does anyone on here sell on amazon and how are things going? i got accepted into the Health & Beauty category a few months back, but decided not to pursue it due to the fees, which work out around 17% i think. Has anyone successfully negotiated a lower fee?

I only went live there just after the new year, going alright and trying to get another category approved at the moment.
Noyt generating enough sales though yet to negotiate fees, not sure of you can though?:|

February is usually our quietest month on Amazon, although the last week may make that different this year.

I'm not too bothered about the % as I've built it into the costs and to be honest, it's the best money I've spend on advertising.

Due to experience, I'm now very wary of any marketing that is not percentage based - anyone offering marketing should make most of their money out of their platform generating sales not out of the monthly/yearly fee or ppc. If anyone calls me up offering fixed fee marketing, I pretty much assume the channel won't work.

I have a friend who is a distributor of personal care items selling on there.
He is doing very well but has 30%+ higher cash margins to play with (goods minimum £40 RRP) so the uplift in volumes still gives a good cash margin.

Why not sell on Amazon?

It doesn't take much time to put products on, doesn't cost much even if you don't sell anything, £25 a month! It's another avenue to sell and you need to be there to be honest.

We find it good for customer acquisition, sell them something on Amazon then stick a discount card in for the website and they go there!

We just see the fees, our cat 25%!, as advertising costs.

It's good for us too, despite the high commision charges
Saying that though, currently behind last years figures which is not what is happening elsewhere:| I think that Amazon is starting to get really competitive.
