Selling domain names?

I've acquired about 15 domain names, which have been renewed several times, all of which I felt could be put to good use should I take my business down a particular route. I haven't, and am now thinking of selling, ...........but who to go to...............*is it worth it..............are their valuers out there?

* I guess it depends on the domain name.

The value will depend on various factors, domain authority (links), traffic, character length, extension (e.g. .com/.co.uk)

Any generic advice you would like to share? I have a few domains I have kept, I have actually let the vast majority of my domain portfolio expire as frankly I found zero interest in most of them. There doesn't seem to be the market any more.

One I'm keeping at the moment I paid £3,000 for 5 years ago,I doubt I'd get more than a couple of hundred for it today.

Try to list them on Sedo or Flippa to check.

So just the domain name - there is no website, no authority, no traffic, no nuffin'.

The value will probably be the same as if you brought a brand new domain.

As with everything value is relative, the 2 main things people might be looking for when buying a domain are:

- Something that's brandable and unique, either something short and snappy or generic, like toys.com
- A domain that's historically gained a lot of authority from backlinks, this can be valuable in building out a site that gets decent traffic.

As has been pointed out, SEDO, Flippa are good placed to get an idea on value - you could also try Acorn Domains.

Domains are not what they once were. Although the Americans still think they can charge 500k for a half decent domain. They don't put 2+2 together and wonder why they still have it after 10 years

When domains were £2 a year to renew, having a 100 you might one day get around to using wasn't that big a deal.

At £10 a year you start wondering if it's worth it.

I'm down to <60 now and still culling ones which were going to be the next big thing :-(

I've not paid anything other than the initial fee and renewals.

All .com or .co.uk, both in some cases.

A quick look at Flippa suggests I might have a couple that will bring in fifty dollars or so.

Nobody ever owns a domain. All you ever have is a license to use the domain name.

The ones offered by the registrar like godaddy are licensed to anyone.

It is important to check first the history of every domain that you want to buy to avoid future problems.

Unfortunately you are right, and the system is increasingly being run in the interests for the registrars rather than domain owners/holders or society at large - as the .org changes show.

They have both domains available to register, and registered domains available for sale by the current owner - GoDaddy are both a registrar and have online domain auctions for already registered domains.

You could try https://domainlore.uk/ or perhaps post them on [URL='https://www.acorndomains.co.uk/']https://www.acorndomains.co.uk/ [/URL]and see if there is any interest. Although they are both generally considered 'wholesale' sites - you won't (generally) get 'end user' prices but as always, it doesn't matter so much what you think its worth its what someone would pay for it!
