Forgive me if this is a stupid question (this really isn't my area) but is there a way/website I can search to see certain search terms in google and how many times they have been searched.

Purely as an example: 'Builder in Leicester' - where can I look to see how many times that has been searched ?

The keywords tool jacob linked to is an adwords tool. It is not an accurate measure, but it can be useful as a comparison tool. And it will often never report the luctrative keywords. For example 'builders in leicester' may be a popular bidding phrase but it's not the one that make you any money.

Google keeps it's search data very secret so any tool you use is only ever going to be a guide.

Thanks fisicx

I am still very confused by it all. Like I say this is not my area at all.

I just wanted to see search terms that I think/would use when looking for the services of my company and wanted to see if people are actually searching for certain phrases that I would if I was searching

What do people say to you when they pick up the phone? That's what they would search for.

People don't want a builder, they want a new garage, or a roof fixing or an attic room. We had a wasps nest last year. We didn't search for 'pest controller in hampshire' we searched for 'wasp removal aldershot'. We found a pest controller but we searched for the actual service we needed.

So you need to cover a whole range of keywords on your site - one page for each one. If you build garden walls then you need a page for garden walls. The same for everything else you do. The more pages the better.

I know you aren't a builder but the principle is the same.

You should use multiple keyword tools to find the related keywords and their average monthly search volume.
  • AdWords keyword tools
  • SEMrush (competitor performance review)
  • Google Search Console (compare your website performance)
  • Google Trends
  • keywordtool.io
  • Searchmetrics (competitor performance review)
