Search Network OR Search AND Display network??? Google Ads

Typically speaking....

Is it better to run a Google Ad Words campaign just on the search network or both? I think that the display network is inviting people to click when they are not looking for your service at that very moment and it is a better tool for businesses with bigger budgets?

I am a Consultant, B2B with small businesses if thats helps.

I have had generally bad experience with adwords. However, That said.

Search network - Fine for stuff people actually search for.
Display network - Sorta related ( you ad still shows on pages related to your advert )

I have found neither of much use however the Search only seems better.

I have had some ok results from Display network only and picking what sites to advertise on.

Sounds like that seems to be the case. I think that Ad words is obviously highly lucrative for some industries/businesses but for small guys it does seem tough.

I think the major problems are the costs. For small business, I have a feeling the money could be spent better elsewhere. ( Still trying to find where ) but for sure.

We get good results for clients on the search network but generally find that the display network eats through clicks with little end result so advise disabling that in most cases

I used adwords a very long time ago. I find that Facebook is very good for our business. We advertise on the buy and sell pages (it's free!!!). We put an advert on last week and got 4 jobs within 3 hours of advertising.
