I have analysis paralysis and would really appreciate some general advice.
I’m currently in my early 30s working in finance earning a decent salary (take home £2.5k net). I have spent the last few years paying off all my debts, I have a small mortgage and low expenses (less than £1k per month) and no kids. My wife also earns a similar amount so we’re comfortable and I think I am in a relatively strong position to allow me to take on some risk.
I have two paths I could take, build my career which pays quite well but doesn’t make me happy and fill me with purpose, continue to save hard and invest in the usual things like rental property, shares etc and do quite well or go for it and either start or buy a business and potentially do much better. I guess it’s the old saying that the enemy of the great is the good!
I'd like to think I have realistic aspirations. I don't want to be the next Peter Jones but how realistic is it to do much better than a senior white collar employee (i.e. six figure salary)?
I’ve started to do some research on buying an established business on businessforsale.com. I mentioned in my intro post that I wanted to start a property related business. This is something I am still yet to decide upon.
I would really appreciate any advice and recommendations for further reading.
All thoughts welcome!
